Notice: The following is a resurrection of a thread created Yesterday...prior to the loss of all threads, posts, and other information in the merge to a new datacenter...
About 2-3wks. back I bought a new Savage 93R17-TR, which had a few problems...most notably scope mounts with overtightened fasteners...which ended up getting rounded heads despite using proper tools and even heat. After talking to a local gunsmith, he informed me that sending it back was the best course of action (otherwise repairs might be fairly costly). A quick call to Savage and they had UPS coming by the following business day to pick it up...at their expense.
It arrived back today (the UPS driver leaving it leaning against the house...without signature!), after only a couple of weeks, and I am pleased to report that all the necessary corrections were made. The scope mounts were removed and reinstalled with minimal torque (actually were left fairly loose, as I requested), and the bolt now operates smoothly. I haven't had an opportunity to shoot it yet (and won't until the new bases arrive), but thus far I am very pleased with the results. They even threw in a free magazine. It's a production rifle, mistakes happen...they took care of the problems, paid for shipping, and didn't whine about it. I can't ask for more than that.
