looking to replace my single shot with a bolt in 223 and am wondering if anyone has a good word on the edge rifles yet. the recievers look different than the normal savages but i see the still have the switch barrle ability to them. how do they shoot? the price is right.

I am looking in to picking up the same rifle... all the reviews I have read say the plastic stock is junk but the rifle shoots MOA or better in most of the tests. For about 250 bucks I think its a good buy, the stock can always be fixed...

Savage Edge

Just picked one up yesterday at Dunham's. It is the XP version, black synthetic stock, black matt barrel. I got it in .223 . The price was $329, came with a Bushnell Sharpshooter 3-9x40 scope. Not a top notch scope, but I think it will be ok for a while on a .223, since it wont take a real beating. To me the stock seems a little more stout up front along the barrel, than the Stevens 200 that I also own in 30-06. I haven't shot it yet, but the bolt action is scary smooth. The trigger breaks at about 5 lbs. and was very crisp. The reciever reminds me of Savage's target models to a certain extent. It is a very solid reciever. I am not gonna say it is a Remy 700 or a Winchester model 70, but I think it is a very well made gun for the price paid. and again it is a SAVAGE!

Not much difference in recoil energy between the .223 and the .243 if that's any concern to you. Also puts you in the deer class if you're interested in that. A nice wooden stock would brighten up the whole gun but may not be available for a year or two from stockmakers. Nice gun and it is made by Savage and is inexpensive.
