Savage HS precision .308 or Tikka Varmint .308

Anybody with one or both of these fine firearms, lets see the input......
I have the tikka,,,,, a fine shooter, and a bad lookin' rifle, but you can't find stocks, mags are expensive, ect. ect....... Question is, should I sell and get the Savage, and why. If I sold it, and the savage did not put sub moa groups out of the barrel out to 800 yrds I will not be a happy yank.

I like the TIKKA

A friend just got a TIKKA Varmint in .308. I mounted the scope and zero'd it for him, and I must say it was a good shooter. First outing and we were getting fine sub moa groups with my handloads. Hornady match load with 155 amax' printed a .525" 5 shoot group. I believe that with a little load development, it would be a serious shooter.

Trigger was great, it fed smooth.....what more is needed?

Had a Savage 10FP in the standard (crappy) stock that I traded for an AR15. It was a great shooting rifle, easily sub moa, and would buy another in a heartbeat. Handling the HS Precision ones gets me all warm and fuzzy.

Thinking Im gonna build a rifle from a Savage/Stevens 200 in .308 or maybe .223.

Have done quite a bit of shooting out to 1,000 yards, and I can tell you that sub 1MOA groups rapidly disappear at some point beyond 100 yards.

With my Savage (not a .308)I can stay sub MoA out to 300 Meters quite easily with handloads. At 100 sub half is fairly straight forward.
Tikka's are nice too, and I quite like the T3 tactical a good shooter out of the box.

I love my Tikka T3 Varmint .308, they are amazing rifles with the smoothest action you can imagine. I picked mine up a couple months ago and it was worth every penny.

At 100 yards I was able to shoot a five shot group 0.458 MOA.

Just shy of 800, but done at 780yds with my cheap stock Savage Model 10. 10 shot grouping 8.25wide by 5.50 tall. Off the hood of my truck with a Leupold VXIII.

The two small holes upper right are with my .223, didn't have much luck with it. I was shooting with a small left x-wind, and actually used a little too much correction for the .308.

You can't argue with opinion....

Some folks like rough toilet paper...other soft.

If you have ever noticed, very few people will ever buy something and then say they don't like it...I have seen customers buy complete turds and swear it's the best thing since the pocket on a t-shirt.

Me says the Savage is the one to get.

The Tikkas are not a bad rifle, but the Savages tend to be more accurate, for longer and out of the box. I mean, we sell them both, and story after story from customers always have the Tikka's pulling hind tit for some reason.

I wouldn't think you would be doing wrong with either....I prefer the Savages.

And that seems to invite a lot of attacks from people who buy said thing and won't admit that it sucks.

That said, I try to do my research BEFORE whipping out the wallet, so I haven't bought all that many things that I really hated...
