Last couple times I tried to shoot my M93 it didn't fire. Indention on case rim was visible, but not deep. Gun is under 75 rds fired, flushed bolt with Gunk-Out and very lightly re-oiled. Test fire was successful. Got gun out to shoot feral cat and click! again! Took front of bolt apart-it was spotless. How does the rear section disassemble?

dont try just yet.
Check your stock see if the cocking nob/flange thing at the back of the bolt is dragging. THAT caused me no end of troubles with my 93r17btvs till i figgured it out (including trying to take apart the rear of the bolt).
It only take a little bit too much pressure reasembling the rifle ONCE to cause the issue, and im sure a few came from the factory with this problem.
If it is try putting a metal washer under the action screw pillars in the stock for a temporary fix, i ended up doing a full bedding job on mine and relieving the stock channel to clear the flange on the rear of the bolt

Thanks LoonWulf-I hadn't looked at that! I have had it out of the stock to check another issue-I have 3 mags from 3 sources-and none will feed the first 2 rounds reliably w/o pushing the mag up into the action. #3-4-5 feed slick as glass. BTW, I haven't tried the rear bolt area yet but the front is flawless. I did swap ammo from CCI to Hernady and 3 for 3 shot fine and then yesterday when the feral black cat that started this issue (multiple attempts w/ftfs got a joke blog started with my gun buddies on Cat 9 Lives/Black cats/ ect) That all ended yesterday, I trapped the son of a mother dog! After the 3 for 3-next day ftf again on new ammo but fired on 2nd hit? Spring issue? Happy New Year and thanks for the tip.

check the alignment of your magazine guide? cant remeber what the damn thing is called, if its out of alignment youll get FTFs. Heh, you know as good as these little guns are theres alot of little irritations that need to be looked at from time to time.

The mag guide is an issue-since day 1 it never fed from a full 5 rd mag with any ammo. With 3/maybe 4 and the mag pressed hard up into the action it will feed. There is a definite gap in the fully seated position and what works. I called Savage and they said-Mag issue and sent me one/I bought another from another source(long on the shelf) and I now have 3 mags that don't feed! I keep putting it off, but this rifle may go back home for a tune-up. I just hate to take off the scope/bipod/tactical light to ship it.
OMG-did I say Tactical light? This puppy is my night security go-to gun for possums, feral cats and coons on my free range chickens! Having taken a few rabbits and squirrels with careful head shots-for the bigger stuff the 17HMR rocks! If I do send it back I will post the results.

cool, mine has been iffy more because of my incessant tinkering then a flaw. Savage should take care of the problems for you tho, they have been quite good in my experience. Id forgoten to mention that ive had alot of issues with cci loaded HMR ammo. All the other rimfire ammo ive gotten from CCI has been great, but the CCI stuff dosent shoot well and has failures to fire with multiple primer strikes.

My Savage 93r17 worked fine for the first almost 2000 rounds. Then I was up shooting Belding ground squirrels, and it started miss-firing. It continued to get worse. I cleaned the bolt with carb cleaned, lubed it, but it still would fire. My buddy tried the miss fired shells in his left hand 93, and they fired every time. This morning I removed the bolt again, put on my glasses, and discovered damage to the bolt where the trigger hits the bolt. It's worn enough from keeping the firing pin from making enough contact to fire the shell. I'll contact Savage tomorrow.
