A friend of mine recently bought a used Savage Mk II off gunbroker for a steal; he'd been wanting one for a while. Well, he took it up to the range the other day and found out why it was so cheap; the firing pin strikes are light and about 1-4 rounds fails to go off. The problem occurs with several different brands of ammo (including Eley and SK Standard Plus, so it's not cheap ammo that'; the problem here) and all of those brands fire just fine out of my Mk II. Savage won't cover repairs because he isn't the original owner. Any ideas on what might be the cause?

1) give it a good cleaning, strip the bolt down and clean and oil everything

2) while its apart, check to see if the firing pin is worn

3) its unusual to have to replace, but check the main spring and replace if needed.

also, check to see make sure the bolt handle is down 100%, if it is not all the way down, you will get light hits.......this could happen if the gun is dirty, has been restocked, or simply not paying attention.

if its possible, can we get some pictures of the primer hits?
