Savage Model 14 American Classic

Vance Outdoors in Columbus has this rifle for $499. Any thoughts? I'm looking for a "one gun to do it all" hunting rifle and am leaning very heavily toward a Savage 30-06.

Certainly, Savage bolt-action rifles have a great reputation for accuracy and quality, and you can't really go wrong with the .30-06.

About the only thing up for consideration is the combo of walnut/stainless. If you like the looks of the gun (which is sounds like you do) then go for it!

I will vouch for the Savages, owned five of them over the years, they were all darn good shooters, better then my Rem 700s and Winchester 70 for sure, and they hang in there with my freaky accurate Tikka. I am not the biggest 30-06 fan, it is simply overpowerd for whitetail, and less then ideal for bull elk IMHO

I own several of the Euro Classic models (discontinued by Savage), and they are amazing shooters.

All of them shoot sub 1MOA easily.

Ill toss another vote in for it being a great deal. Ive got an 110, that ive had for 11 or so years, and a 11 that ive had for 3, both are great guns. If you decide you dont like the way the stainless looks later, you can always have it epoxy coated.

Any of a number of gun coating products....kinda like hightech two part paint.

Brownells and midway carry some stuff under there own names as well as the others listed above.
You could also get it powder coated, its not really my cup of tea but ive seen some very nice work with some of the older paintball markers.
Or if your like me (cheap/broke) your average can of spray paint can do a pretty nice job, gets nicks faster, but touch up is easier.
