I was in a local gunshop yesterday and spotted a Savage Model 99 in .300 Sav, reblued so the metal is NIB condition, the wood while not pretty is in very good shape, the bore is showing good shape rifling and it has the brass counter. The shops wanting $549. How’s the price sound?

I think that's high by about $100. The reblue has functional appeal, but doesn't help the resale value. I've bought a handful of Savage 99's over the last year, and the most I ever paid was $495 for a 1961 version with flawless factory blueing and furniture and chambered in 308.

If anything, the reblue hurts the value. I'd go back and look at it and say, "Nice rifle. Shame someone re-blued it."

See if they'll give on the price -- on the order of $100.

Yhea, that price is high. Try to talk 'em down.

My favorite Rifle is my 99 in .300 Savage. I've nothing bad to say about it.

around here that would be a 350 dollar rifle tops. twin cities mn.

I just turned down a eg in 250 savage that i would call 95 percent for 600 and that is a much more desireable combo than what you are seeing. that said the .300 savage, model 99 combo is THE BEST deer rifle in my mind.
