I am going to sell my Rock River Arms LAR-8 and its 20" barrel, A2 stock and get a replacement rifle. I am wanting a 308 win AR platform that takes PMAGs

16-18" barrel and a carbine stock are desired.

I want to use it for some range use and hunting, I will put a scope on it. (i have a Vortex PST 4-16)

I like the idea of the savage MSR10 but I have not found many people who own them. the features "out of the box" are great. ok trigger, furniture and adjustable gas block with a savage barrel. I like the rail interface and BCG. everything seems top notch for a affordable price.

the DPMS G2 has gotten good reviews BUT seems to need an adjustable gas block so it won't abuse brass and most of the options leave something to be desired with the handguard

M&P 10, seems as good as others, not as revolutionary as the other two and probably needs an adjustable gas block, free float rail etc.

I don't expect 1/2" accuracy but 1" with good ammo seems like a reasonable desire these days. what rifle wins a head to head? I have about $1300 to spend on the new rifle after I sell the RRA

I really want info on the MSR10 from savage, it seems to be a savage version of the Daniel Defense 308 rifle

I have the MP10, my second. Both have been reliable, good hunting partners. My first one would shoot a 2.5-3" group at 200m with federal fusion, my new on will shoot a 1.5" four shot group at 200m with PMC Xtac ammo. I couldn't believe that kind of accuracy out of an 18" pencil barrel.
I did not change forearms on these, I like the factory handguard for several reasons.
On my first one I installed a CMMG 2 stage trigger, on this one I went with a Geissele SSA-E trigger which is excellent and the only Mod the rifle needed though I use a Magpul ctr stock. I have noticed NO stringing with heating barrel. Just reliable groups.
Now the bad: My first rifle would have a hiccup or two with underpowered ammo. But with commercial it was 100%.
My second rifle, the dustcover pin walked forward and the dustcover nearly fell off. I just replaced it with a Strike industries captive pin cover. I use a American Defense mount and 1" Leupold scope.
I shot a running doe with it, and another doe a couple years ago. As you would expect, pass through and reliable kills.
The reason to buy an MP10 is if you want an 18" barreled rifle that is lighter than most, and ambidextrous. They are good hunting rifles out of the box.
If you are OK with a heavier rifle or a 16" there are many options.

The barrel of the MP-10 is not a pencil profile. It has tapered sporter weight barrel which is heavier than a pencil barrel

PSA has been having a sale on their AR10 variant. You could always build one up using receiver sets and picking the parts you want. PSA will be delayed in shipping and building, just their nature. Aero can be hit or miss on quality and build time as well. The Savage looks real interesting and is the one I am looking at myself.

Problem with PSA compatibility with other makers is PSA receivers and parts are compatible with...PSA. DPMS or Armalite might not fit their stuff.

thanks for all the info. the PSA rifles are the right price, but I have read several reports of reliability issues. I am going to try to get my hands on a savage to see how it feels/fits and balances. I might need to be the guinea pig for that one. If so, I will be sure to write up a review
