I am thinking of getting my brother a Savage 22-250 for his B-day. I want a stainless steel weapon with a wood/laminated stock. I want the Accutrigger. Looking at the Model 12, there are two versions which caught my eye, the "Low Prpfile" and the "Varminter." Which should I choose. This will probably only be a paper shooter, with the occasional groundhog duty. Thanks.

id go with two things, whichever one you can get a longer bbl on, and whichever one has a faster rifling twist. after that, it is mostly which one you think is purdyer.

I have the 12VBSS....damn fine rifle!

Accurate as h e double L and more so after I worked up loads using the Hornady 55 Grain V-max bullet on top of 37.5 grain of Hodgdon 380 powder.

With the Bushnell 4200 Elite 4.5X24X40 scope I can easily get 1"-1 1/4" groups at 100 yards.

I have the accutrigger set at around 1.5 pounds and I love it.

you're post is confusing. the 'low profile' (which all are listed as varminters)with the laminated stock looks like this

the one listed as just 'the varminter' doesn't have the laminated stock

are you considering both stock styles, or not?

if not, how about the 12BVSS

btw, you're one fine brother.;)

Sorry if the post is confusing. Savage's website had me a bit confussed.:) Nipprdog, I am looking at the top model you posted the "Low Profile" as I called it, and I am looking at the bottom model with the fatter McMillan-esque type stock. (12BVSS?)
