Savage rifles are junk. They have crappy bolts, look ugly have crappy stocks and are junk. That is what a guy at the range last year told my buddy who has the same rifle as you do. Well after shooting some groups the guy who was telling him that said well lets walk down and see what that 500.00 piece of crap of yours did. I wonder if it will be under 3MOA. well we walked down and the guy (how owned a Kimber that was tricked out) got to the 200yrd target he just about fell over. My budy shot two 5 shot groups that were .550 and .500. the guy with the kimber had .80 inch groups. He sure was pissed. My buddy just looked at him and said. " Savage's may not be pretty, dont have a glass smooth action but damn they shoot good! He asked the guy how much he paid for his Kimber and he muttered way to much. He let the guy shoot his Savage and and after checking the target said "thats the best shooting piece of scrap metal i have ever shot, That thing sure shoots!! I may have to get one myself" Savage may never win a beauty contest but they are some of the best shooters at any price. I picked up my 12FLV on last Saturday! I cant wait until it warms up a bit and i can see what it will do. for now i shoot 2 rounds in the woods behind my house and clean it to break it in.

I love my savage, yeah hart smoothed the action out when they trued the action and put their barrel on, but even stock it wasn't horrible, its a freaking tack driver and i have yet to unlock its full potential

I have a Kimber Longmaster in .223, and I like Savage's accutrigger. I had money to burn when I bought mine, but you're at the point where software is more important than hardware.

If it has a Shilen barrel, then it really isn't a Savage. It becomes a customized Savage.

What about a Remington with a Shilen barrel, trued action, McMillan stock and BR prepped Lapua brass? Not really a Remington the way most people understand it to be for the purpose of comparison.

I have enjoyed my Savages for years and have had similiar experiences at the range. Although I can afford to look at higher end guns, I don't believe I could find one more accurate out-of-the box.

Handsom is as handsome does. Until I find a better bang for the buck (or more than twice the buck), I'll keep using my Savages. They's ugly, but they's accurate.

I picked up a used Savage 110L in 1968 for $125 which included a Redfield 4x scope. It's killed a lot of deer and still shoots under a minute a 100 yards. Savage gets my vote any day.

I don't think they're all that ugly to tell you the truth. Having shot a friend's a few times, I'm thinking I need to add one to my collection. Now to choose a cartridge...

.308? .30-06? .270?

Argh. Where's that 3 sided coin?

I have 7 of them

I have 5 BVSS's and 2 VLP's in 204. Any gun that will shoot sub 1/2MOA is BEAUTIFUL. Five of mine are confirmed sub 1/2MOA shooters and I suspect that the other 2 will prove to be. Initial results are close to 1/2MOA with both. I met an idiot like that at our club once. His gun/scope cost him about $3400 and I had $900 into my Savage/Leupold combo. I didn't hesite to bet my rig against his. That shut him up. After a few excuses about why it wouldn't be fair, and the intervention of a mutual friend, we each shot 5, 5 shot groups just for fun. His best group was not as good as my worst.:D Waht was even better was three weeks later I walked into the Local gun shop to see his rig on consignment. I asked the owner if the guy had ordered anything new. He Ordered a Savage and a Leupold 6.5x20. I only saw the guy once after that, the gun hadn't even cleared the case and I said nice rig Mike. Yeah I know he says.

By the way I think the Stainless guns with the Laminated wood stocks really do look nice and the Model 14 Classic is very good looking.

Hard to believe anyone could be that arrogant and stupid at the range. Oh, I've seen 'em on the net, but face to face? LOL!

I'll save you the trouble...7mm Rem Mag.

Oh great, now you want me to buy yet another set of dies, brass, etc. You're KILLING me! :D

Best thing I ever did to my .223 110 was blow up the factory barrel. Replaced it with a shilen. Its disgustingly accurate now-:) for a cheap crappy gun

Tell ya what... I've got a Savage that I'll be happy to shoot groups from a bench with you. $100 per group.

Shilen Select Match barrel, 6BR (Lapua brass) chamber, smithed by Billy Stevens.

What kind of MOA are you getting? I keep tossing around the idea of getting a 6mm BR.

I have a 12fv in .204ruger that I restocked with a factory laminate and topped with Weaver KT15. Ugly? Perhaps... I don't really think so. Accurate? Oh, yeah. I thought about changing out the factory barrel, until I shot it.

I also have a 93r17 (.17hmr) in a multi-color thumbhole laminate with a Leopold 3-9. For shorter range target use, it's the first thing I'd grab out of the safe. The magazines are crap though... wish they'd spend a little time and re-engineer these mags.

If you think the plastic stock is ugly (and it is), $15 worth of Krylon will pretty it up some.

This one is a Model 10 .300WSM. Shoots wonderful groups, has a decent non-Accutrigger, and it even feeds, extracts, and ejects properly :what:!! (Hard to believe for a Savage, huh?)

I like my savage 111 .30x06, works great, nice and accurate. Who cares if the stock is ugly? Its a tool(I use my for hunting only), like a hammer or a screwdriver, function over form all the way.

If I take 20 minutes, and put my $350 Shilen on in my garage, and have less in the Savage with the Shilen barrel than the cost of a new Remington, is it a custom? I might call that a semi-custom, but calling work you do yourself on a modular rifle is hardly custom.

I love my Savage 110 in .30-06. It's accurate, reliable, and just works great for me.

Yet it always amazes me how someone can have one experience with one unit of some mass-produced item and then confidently extrapolate his/her experience into a pontification encompassing every single one ever made.
