I don't think they're all that ugly to tell you the truth.

Yeah , like the 12BVSS pictured above - have one myself and I don't find it to be ugly in the least bit. It is a much nicer looking rifle than my HS Precision stocked 700s.

If it has a Shilen barrel, then it really isn't a Savage. It becomes a customized Savage.

That is probably the best feature of the Savage design is the fact that you can customize without great expense , at least compared to most rifle designs. I am seriously considering a match barrel install for my 12BVSS.

I love my savage 12fv .223 off a rest and with no wind at 200yards I can shoot a quarter all day with a little wind I can keep it inside a fifty cent piece. Sure the stock is a piece of junk and Some people find it ugly but the proof is on the paper. and for 600 dollars with a scope it ain't bad

That thing sure shoots!! I may have to get one myself

I heard the same thing once after convincing a guy to put down his Beretta over-and-under and shoot my Saiga-12 at a round of trap. :D

My Savages (two of them) in .223 are awsome. My .30-06, on the other hand, is less than stellar. Best it can do (I have yet to handload for it) is about 1 1/2 inches at 100yds. I've tried at least a dozen different factory rounds in it. We'll see what happens when I roll my own.

Savage M340 in .30-30 Winchester. This one wears a Bushnell 3-9x32. It's been pretty well dead on with each load I've tried. It shoots very well with a handloaded Hornady 150gr SP running 2000fps.

Savage M11GL in .243 Winchester. This one is wearing the original factory iron sights I've talked about wanting to change for aperture. I just wish the drop of the comb was more like my '03A3... I'll have to drop it into a custom-made stock to get it right. Thing is, I can hit anything I aim for with it as is. It seems to do quite well with handloaded Hornady 105gr A-max at 2700fps or any of the factory stuff I've shot... Winchester or S&B.

Love my .308 Savage 10FCP that wears a Zeiss. I get plenty of looks at the range when people find out I shoot a savage and how accurate it is. :what:

I have several friends with savage .22s.

All were bought for less than 100 dollars and all shoot very very very well.

I have hunted small game with one friends and it has been dropped and abused and shoots like a dream It has hit every Squirrel it ever saw!

My .30-06, on the other hand, is less than stellar. Best it can do (I have yet to handload for it) is about 1 1/2 inches at 100yds.

Constant 1.5" 100yd groups from a hunting weight rifle is OUTSTANDING in my book

That's within Minute-Of-Deer-Vitals (10" circle) to 300yds if you can hold steady that far out.

Yep, my 12BVSS in Win .243 just sucks!

P.S. - the lonely hole is the first/fouling shot in a 5 shot group - 1" major graduations, 1/4" minor graduations.

Savage 110 .243. Bought in 1965. Has a Redfield 2X7 on top.
It shot great when I got it and still does. Plus, it`s light.
Everybody has some sort of ax to grind on one thing or another but for my
money, Savage is a good rifle.

Savage makes an accurate rifle, and the accutrigger is excellent.

I just don't care for the internal box magazines with the small case head rounds such as 223 or 204. If you are using the 308 size or larger, it is just fine.

This is a dupe of the same thread over at The Firing Line. In general, the same sorts of responses from satisfied owners of Savage rifles.

Seems like a waste of bandwidth to keep on keeping on with the same old stuff...

So, a summary: Far more people are happy with a Savage than are unhappy. The opening hypothesis is incorrect.

I have a Savage model 64F and a Savage 120a. Both are nice. I have a Bushnell 4x32 scope on the 64F. It shoots accurately, but I have not officially benchmarked either of them. At 50ft I can shoot a 1" bull's eye out of a target with either. I got the 120a because of the bolt action; I wanted something that would take longer to feed. I may put a scope on it because the iron sights are bent and do not shoot straight. Other than that, it is very nice for the money.
