hey folks, I posted this in the rifle forum too but I thought I would post here and see if I got any bites. I’m looking for a .308 handload recipe for a savage stealth. The handloads that I use for my Rem 700 5R are NOT what this little rifle likes, and I just thought someone out there may have already worked up a load that I could use and save some time and money. Thanks in advance!

as you noticed what one of your rifles likes the other dose not , that is the same as what my savage likes yours may not , you need to find out what your rife likes best
I will say both my savage 308 rifles like 168gr best

I had 168gr over 40 gr of 4895 with OAL of 2.80. It’s done well enough over most of my .308s so it was my go to for the new rifle. I realize one load won’t work with every rifle but I figured if someone else had a recipe for a stealth it would at least give me a starting point

This may work for you, may not. It's been very accurate for me in 3 different rifles. A savage M11, Rem 788, and G3. 44 gr IMR 4064, Speer 150 Hot Core, PRVI brass, Rem 9 1/2 primer. You'll have to set a COL appropriate for your rifle, as mine are/were set a little on the long side of Speer book. This load is on the mild side, you could tweak it upwards on the charge if you desire more velocity, it held accuracy for me when I worked it up to max, but the wife doesn't like the recoil and blast at full power and our deer ranges are relatively short so I worked it back down.

IMHO Varget, IMR 4064, R15 are all in the sweet spot for .308 with 150-168 grain bullets, and keeping the bullet simple...cup and core...will hedge your bet towards better groups and easier load development.
