Savage Stevens SxS.
Got this shotgun in a trade. The extractor and extractor screw were Hillbilly Gunsmithed and did not work. I replaced with correct parts from Numrich. However, the barrels do not drop open all the way without downward pressure. Darn irritating. Has anyone seen a similar issue? I am thinking there may be a issue with the mainsprings.
I hate breaking these things apart that far for nothing.

Any help?

My memory is getting dim on that, but I seem to recall that was one thing I couldn't stand about the new Savage/Fox double I bought years ago.

The other thing I didn't like was, it started falling apart the first time I took it pheasant hunting on opening week-end.
The vent rib started coming off, and the action loosening up in 1 & 1/2 days hunting.

I traded it for a new Winchester 101 on the way back home from Western Kansas and cut my losses!

Normal on Savage/Stevens 311 series shotguns.Brownells carries a Wolff spring kit to improve trigger pull and allow the action to open without having to crack it over your knee.

Normal. Unless the gun is already cocked, it takes downward pressure on the barrels to open. When it's cocked, they'll drop open easily.
