Plinkin' Logs

So I was excited to pick up a new plinker. It is a Savage Mark II 22LR from my local Bimart. Well my joy turned to sorrow when I realized the dovetailed front sight was off center and was wedged in so tight that material would have to be removed from the dovetailed post in the barrel to get it aligned in the center. To make matters worse, I grabbed a cloth to wipe the factory oil off and some of the bluing magically wiped right off leaving I nice brownish rust colored streak where the bluing once was. Albeit not a considerable amount, but totally unacceptable for a brand new gun.
So needless to say it was going back. I contacted my local Bimart who said they would handle warranty repairs but obviously no replacements and to bring it in to them. I afterwards contacted Savage who sent me a shipping label (was suprised by that as I thought they made you send it back on your own dime) and also told me I could send it in directly.
My question is, how us better to return it? Myself or through the GS? I live in Washington, so I believe they could send it directly back to me unless they replaced it completely. Do they give any preference to RMA items from big dealers? Anyone have experience with Savage warranty? They weren't able to give me a time frame other then saying their goal is 3 weeks. But he acknowledged that they shutdown for almost 2 weeks in the beginning of July. I have heard mixed results about Savage's warranty. Some have had excellent results with others saying they got the same gun back completely unchanged and unrepaired.
