Got me a shiny new toy....

Rock Island Armory 1911A1, .45 ACP "Tactical". Swapped out the grips immediately for some rubber checkered grips. Picked up a fobus holster and mag holder. 350 rounds of ammo while I was at it. Probably oughta have time to shoot it next week, too.

Somewhere, some liberal is crying... :p

Sweet!!

I love the parkerized no nonsense look to that .45. Ok, I might put some pretty grips on it but that's as barbeque as I'm gonna get.:D Never been a 1911 fan but I may have to put some serious thought into that. I've read nothing but good things about the Rock Islands.

It's defintely utilitarian. But I didn't buy it to look at ;)

One big, gaping hole in my little collection was a shooter. I've got some good guns, but no handuns that I can go to the range and just shoot well, and maybe go off and do some practical shooting competitions with as well.

JamisJockey, where do you shoot that? Is that rust on the guide rod or just poor picture quality? Love 1911s. I am no expert, but I think they shoot better than the polymer guns DA/SA I have. I have a Kimber Ultra Covert II, and its my favorite. I just shoot the polymers more often though.

Nice gun. One of the better values IMO. They work and work well (even without a nice set of grips):)

Sorry, dont mean to hijack the thread but I have a question about the holster... From the picture, it looks like it does not completely cover the trigger leaving about a half an inch or more gap. Something COULD get in there and cause you to discharge if the safety is off and you grab the grip safety.

Am I over thinking it?

I recently discovered the NRA range in Fairfax. I haven't shot it yet, but will put a couple hundred rounds through it next week. Poor light and alot of oil on the guide rod, they come heavily oiled from the factory.

Its a very small gap, but I don't like it, either. I'll probably be buying another holster asap. Its small enough that the odds of something getting in there in combination with the grip safety being engaged and the slide safety being off at the same time as something being caught in the small gap are pretty small. But I'd rather have a leather topless paddle holster for it, and will be buying one as soon as funds permit.

Took another look at the holster. Its really, really snug. Pistol will slide all the way into it, with a very distinct "snap". I don't have enough strength to pull it out and have to looosen the screw to get it out. Talked to fobus they said to try heating it and then putting the gun in, it should then fit better after that, and if that doesn't work, they'll swap it out for me for another 1911 model.

No, that was definitely a gun snob comment.

Congrats on the new Tactical! You'll love it! Just ignore the snobs.

Nice pistol and great photos

Nice photos of a nice gun. I have that holster and mag holster too.

Recently got a small of back SOB holster that I like also. Wear the SOB holster at all times and can put on or remove the phobus quickly as needed. The Taurus PT 1911 is well liked.

Two mags fit in my belt cell phone pouch with the phone and ammo not seen, so that works well.

Here's picture of my favorite holster. I've changed the holster wearing now, by centering it on the rear center belt loop. The beavertail doesn't tear holes in the shirt now. Yes, condition 3 in this picture.

The FOBUS holster sucks for many reasons. If you showed up at a match with that one, they likely wouldn't let you shoot, unless you taped up a trigger block on there to cover the trigger.

Upgrade holsters as soon as you can.
