Hi, I am interested in SBRing a CZ Scorpion. I have not SBR'd anything before. Most of the Form 1 is self-explainatory, but I am a little confused about what to mark for the length. I understand it is the length of the SBR with stock extended (if folding stock), but my question is what if I plan to use stock of different configurations (telescoping, folding, folding/telescoping combo, etc) which yield different overall lengths? What should I mark down?

Also, does anyone know the overall length of the CZ Scorpion with factory folding stock installed? Thanks!

I believe what you should specify for OAL is what you plan to build. You can change your mind later if you wish. Just think about what you want to make, and state that.

When I fill out a form 1 I put an number down in the OAL spot . I dont measure anything and I dont care bout what that number is or if it is really what the OAL actually is. It is the most insignificant part of that form. Give it a rough guess .

It's the original configuration of the gun. If it was a 10.5" AR, it'd be 31.5" OAL or something like that. You could change the configuration to whatever you like after it is approved.

The only caveat is:

If you ever sell the gun, then it must be returned to the OAL listed on the Form 1 before the sale.

Just take your best guess. Obviously you won't know the exact length because you aren't allowed to assemble it yet (or some would argue, even buy the parts you need so as not to be charged with constructive possession). You can swap to any configuration once its approved, but I believe you are supposed to be able to go back to the original caliber/length you submitted for.

Also as far as selling it later, if you take it out of NFA configuration (for example an AR15, putting a 16"+ barrel back on it, making it a regular rifle) you can sell it as any other firearm. Obviously at that point you've kind of 'lost' your $200 tax stamp as the new owner will have to file a new form to turn it back into an SBR.
