SC gun show

odd-I'm a woman, but not much of a shopper

BUT----I could drop $$$ in a heartbeat at either Grady's or Diamond Brand. I'm only about an hour from either. We did most of our Christmas shopping for our sons at Grady's and were just at Diamond Brand last month buying them hiking boots & socks for their summer trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in NM.

I've been to the state run rifle range in Pauline several times. There are also 2 rifle ranges in Sumter National Forest in Union County. One is called Fairforest and the other is Philson Crossroads. Both are not far from Cross Anchor/Enoree area. I usually go to Rex's to shoot handguns. I've been twice to Polk County Gun Club to a NRA-sponsored women's only trap shoot. It was loads of fun!

My main interest is handguns. The last few I have bought and the last long guns bought in our family have been purchased (new) from Fast Cash Pawn Shop on Hwy. 221 between Spartanburg and Chesnee. Todd will give you a deal...tell him Becky sent you!

i have known billy and todd and, god forbid, ramos for many years. good bunch of guys. the next time your on 221 shoot up to the royal movie theater. if you were standing at the ticket box and looked left you'll see a blue line flag outside suite 14.
thats me.

i actually have permission to use the chesnee police range. as long as we are shooting 25 yards or some of us could get together here at the store and ride up.

the pauline range has improved since jackie took over. that ***** ed browne ran more good people away than he kept.

I'll stop by sometime soon to meet you. And I'd really like for some of us Spartanburg-ers to shoot. I'm always looking for ways to improve, and I'm sure y'all would have some suggestions for me (I've been shooting for less than a year).

I'm not sure who Ramos is...but I recognized Farron right off. We had our Lab up to him some years back for some training.

Becky

yup i've only been shootin for less than a year too, i'm not good but not terrible. i had to buy both my rifles, my parents don't mind guns but always nag me about how i spend my money so gettin them to sign for a handgun's bout outta the question :banghead:

only bad thing about pauline range is they took out the handgun range. i've talked a lot to the guy workin there b/c he used to be with the sheriff's office and i'm always askin him stuff about it, anyways he said a guy who has a construction company said he'd make the handgun burns(?) for free if they could get it approved. they were supposed to get the money for it this year but they cut money from the education budget so there's no way dnr's gettin any for handgun range.

he said there's one in boiling springs somewhere past lake bowen that i'm gonna go and try to find sometime.

oh, for ya'lls information i think NRA rifleman mag said there's a gun show the 28th in sptbg at waccamaw, probably like the last one everyone said was poopy

rebbryan.
the pistol range at pauline will not get approval.
the range is a two side set up if people are downrange on the 100 then someone is going to have to be there w/ them. that same person also has to be on the rifle/200 range and be able to see the shooters. jackie is a good guy but he aint 2 good guys. the state is not going to hire another person to man the joint w/ jackie and a volunteer is out due to liability concers.
get up w/ me and we might go to the police range some day after 1800.

I thought there was a big ol' gun club just south of S'burg...between Hwy 56 and Pine Street (maybe the S'burg Shooter's Club?). IIRC, just take 56 south until you come to a big intersection with a bi-lo at your four o'clock and a winn dixie at your two o'clock. Turn left and go a few miles....watch for the sign on your right.

It's not too far from where the Union Highway meets, but I can't recall the name of the connecting road.

Al, Grady's is nice, but they are a bit high, I thought. Now for really high pistol prices, but a great selection, you really should check out White Jones on the 28 Bypass! Grady's has some great people and very good selection.

If you ever get the chance to travel to Asheville, definitely stop in at Diamond Brand Outfitters. Ten times what Grady's is, but no "hunting" gear.

I'll be up in S'Burg this friday PM, I hope, to settle a tab with COHIBA. I'll take the time to drive by the club I saw some time back and see if it's still in operation.

I normally shoot over at the public range in Gaffney. Not much further than the one over in Pauline, and I kinda like it better. You can shoot 100 yd rifle and it's got a small pistol range. The RO's are a couple of good guys that keep everything safe.

The range that Vaughn's talking about is Spartanburg shooters club in Whitestone. It's only a shotgun range, but they've got trap, skeet and sporting clays. Nice setup really, and some pretty friendly people.

There's also an IDPA/IPSC club over in Moore, that has shoots every other Saturday. I haven't been in while becuase works been hectic.

vaughn, come early. i may be forced to close and get in an evening turkey roost before sat morning.

WOW! There ARE lots of SC guys on here!

Count me in if any of you Cola-area guys want to get together.

I am absolutely AMAZED at how many SC folks are on here.

I'm a member at MCRC. I believe we're allowed to take 10 guests with us during the week and 4 on the weekends (due to matches). Everyone saying "we should get together" isn't going to make it happen.

There is an IPSC match Saturday (4/12), and I will be there (unless it is raining). I won't be competing, but I'll be there. Anybody that wants to meet up, let's make some kind of plan. Of course, later in the day the pistol bays will be open again and we can do some shooting.

Any takers?

liquid, did you go saturday. the guy who shot the steel plate at 76 yards w/ a glock is a customer of mine. i hand fit the BBL in the pistol. he was real proud of that shot.

Another SC guy

Yep,

I actually went to the Jamil Temple three times this past weekend. Like my brother OutfieldJack said, I did pick-up a parkerized P-32 for $219. I did think prices on other items were high, but the Pawn Shop place from Greenville did have some great prices.

A place y'all may want to check out is Bear Creek Firearms in Prosperity. They used to only be open on Saturdays, but now have expanded to weekday hours. Real friendly people (family operation), ordered me a Beretta 92 and saved me $90.

White Jones Hardware is another place in Anderson you may want to check out. Be sure you go to the bigger store which is in the east side of town.

Like mentioned before, Grady's in Anderson does have some nice stuff, but I didn't see any deals.

I was working the Grassroots SC table on Sunday afternoon. It was a pretty poor show as far as I was concerned too.

I also didn't know there were this many SC people on here. I am in Fort Mill.

Paul

Agreed, the Pawnshop from Greenville (Fast Cash Pawn Shop, I think) definitely has the best prices at that show. I picked up a used 870 ($149, I think) and a new P32($199) from them last fall. I usually go to the Jamil show just for the powder and primers. Saves on the HazMat fee. Shooter's Choice has such awful prices on reloading supplies and they're pretty much the only game in town that I know of for retail supplies, so it's mail-order for bullets/brass/tools and the Jamil show for posder/primers. Anyone know of any fairly-local places that have fair prices on powder/primers?

I think it'd be great to meet at MCRC sometime, but I'm not sure if this weekend is the time. I'd like to meet sometime when we know we'll be able to shoot! Maybe the next weekend (19th or 20th?)?

Al, you know, I'd never heard of Lawman's and I live on that side of town too! Have to check it out tomorrow.

I'm familiar with almost all of the shops you guys are talking about. I went to Clemson for 2 years so I frequented the Grady's and the White Jones. I never found anything that I felt I really needed to spend that much money on.

If there is enough interest I'll start a new thread just for a SC shoot (or someone else can do it, whatever). I'm pretty much open on the weekends. There is also a range in Whitmire if we get too many people for MCRC. That's where I went before I was a member.

I've only got about 15 firearms to contribute, but anyone interested in a group shoot - sound off here with a date!

- LT

Hey, Liquid Tension, I went to Clemson for two years too! While I dated my Wife while she was a Junior and a Senior. That was about 17 years back. Good God I feel old now. :(

Wait until you get another decade down Scott, your perspective will change - :D

I'm a long time member of MCRC as well, so that gives us some more flexibility.

Loach, not sure how good the prices are, but the "real" hardware store downtown has primers and powder. I want to say Hiller Hardware, but I'm having a brain cramp.

Edit - yep, Hiller Hardware on Lady street.

Well, there's another common thread (with a couple of you anyway). I also went to Clemson for a couple of years - back in the mid-80s. Then I transferred to Winthrop where my girlfriend-soon-to-be-wife was. What the heck was I thinking??? :D

(I'm also a Mustang fan Scott - recently sold my '96 Cobra :( )

Anyway... I'm pretty much a gun newbie, but I'd be interested in a group shoot. I wish I could make the IDPA thing at MCRC this weekend, but my wife is out of town and I have the kids for the weekend. I'm usually open on weekends though - or now that the time has changed - after work in the afternoons.

JPoe-- My Wife is going out of town too, but with the kids!!:neener:
But let me rephrase something, I didn't ATTEND Clemson, just every weekend visits from Summerville. Now we live in Columbia, and of all places, I work at USC.

Shame on you for selling the Cobra, but take a look at the new Mach I. I'm knee deep in a 1966 GT Fastback restomod. Drove a friends '68 390 fastback wed. evening and now I'm all pumped up again to go do bodywork this weekend and next week while the kids are out of town.

<-----Winthrop graduate, class of 1975 (when it was just beginning to go co-ed)

Anybody in the upstate want to meet me at Rex's in Hendersonville soon?

Becky

Looks like weather is going to cooperate this weekend, so I'll be out there Saturday unless I go out of town. I'll be wearing my molon labe hat (white/black lettering) so I shouldn't be hard to find - last time I was the only person there with one.

I can probably make it to a group shoot next weekend, but isn't that Easter weekend? I don't really remember and I don't have a calendar handy.

Al, yeah, I visited Hiller's once as well. Their selection was geared mostly toward shotgun shell reloading and their prices were about the same as Shooter's Choice. It appears that they don't do much business, because most of their inventory is covered in dust and faded. I bought a box of Rem 9 1/2 primers when I was there because I wanted to try them and Shooter's Choice didn't have any and they only had a box of 100 that looked about as old as I am and was held together with masking tape....

Loach, a month or two back I picked up some large pistol primers and a poundd of 231. IIRC, the powder was 23 bucks, the primers were 16 (?). Rarely reload, so don't know if those were good or bad prices. I really like Hillers compared to Lowes or HD, so I like to support them when I can.

BTW, Lawman's Safety has two quirks - one, their open 9 to 6, M-F. Two, if they have a used firearm you think is a good price or you may want it, put it on layaway. They move a tremendous amount of guns through the store. Monday a week ago they had two .32 S&W revolvers I sorta liked. Their gone as of today.
