Scale modeling

Looking at the photos of models made in the UK, I decided to take some images of my own. Trouble is, I have no scale models to photograph. Does anyone near Nashville make diaramas or military equipment or troops? Want to cooperate in making images?

That was taken in 2002 at a museum with poor access to the models and poor light. I might do better now.
 
To clarify: "photos of scale models of military equipment or troops." I can't get real tanks or stormtroopers but have a regular use for images of such.
 
Try searching for wargaming groups in your area. There should be people around who wargame with scale models in 1/285 micro armor, 1/72 HO scale, 1/35 or maybe even 1/6th scale. Some of these guys have amazingly realistic collections which they've spent years to collect.
 
Staying on topic now, do you plan on a particular theme for you images, or are you just going to photograph whatever takes your fancy?
 
I have certain plans for posters, also silhouettes, out of focus background pics, whatever looks good and realistic. Pretty much any period would do, though WW1 to modern would be the most useful. 1/6 would be MUCH easier to photograph well.

you might want to check with your nearest hobby shop to see when
and where the next contest or show is.
Or go to www.finescale.com they are owned by Kalmbach Publishing
who also publishes Scale Auto and Model Railroader.
Also one of the best diorama builders is Shep Paine he has a few books
on how to build dioramas.
I just started a couple of projects but nothing is far enough along to
take pictures of yet.

Tamara is the only one I can think of, but she's in Knoxville. BTW, that set of photos of the Siebel Ferry with the Tiger tank and Opel truck is amazing. One thing wrong though, no one is smoking. :p
 
I was going to suggest finescale.com as well, but 308 beat me to it.

Edit to add: I just put up a thread over on finescale.com linking back to this one. Maybe that'll help.

Hmm, I checked the IPMS website (International Plastic Modelers Society) http://www.ipmsusa.org/ but there doesn't appear to be any affiliated clubs around Nashville. check with a local hobbyshop, they will know about any clubs in the area and someone will have what you are looking for.

ScottsGT, that's beautiful F-4 but in 45 years of Naval Aviation Service, (Military & Civilian) I never saw a boarding ladder like the one you show used on a Phantom. IMHO, it somewhat detracts from the bird. On Flight Decks, keeping up with, securing and storing a *&%$@^% ladder like that would be a BIG problem.

Model maybe one of the kits that contained parts to build either a navy F-4B or J model, or Air Force F-4C/D variant. i KNOW the AF used that big ugly ladder. and not to gang up on you Scott but even if the ladder is legit to a navy use, why have it up there when the extenable boarding ladder is already deployed? (most likey Answer, you painted the !@#@ed thing, so you decided to SHOW the thing:) )

Yea,
You guys busted me!! Tamiya kits several different versions of the F-4. J in Navy and Marines, USAF-E, USAF C-D and the Japan Self Defense Force. The ladder is just hanging on the side and can be removed easily. But you guys did let me down, know one noticed that there is too much dihedral in the wingtips :neener: BTW, I have all these kits waiting to be built but the JSDF. Now there's the price of a good gun wrapped up in plastic.
(Yea, I built it, and !@#@it, I'm going to display it:D )
 
Hey Oleg just realized you were looking for large scale stuff. take a look at Walmart and toys r us for the 21st century large scale military stuff. Dragon also makes some large scale figures but that would be a hobbyshop only item. there is very little if any assembly required with these. Most are 1/16th scale or larger.
