Just picked up a new fde scar 17 the other day. Wondering from actual usersthere thoughts on this supreme weapon. Please refrain from the talk about the reciprocating charging handle if it is hitting your fingers you are not holding the rifle right. Go back to call of duty modern warfare. You're right it its heavier than your controller.

I have one that I am happy with. Lots of owners at the FN Forums as well.
Mine is a tough Mo... it ate a DPMS for lunch and dumped out a Hi Point. It then peed on Sig and stole HKs girlfriend.

Seriously, mine has been 100 % reliable and always a point of discussion at the range.

I love the weight, reliability, and optics-friendliness. I wish they offered them with longer barrels though. 16" is shorter than I want on a .308. Also the stock is too short even on its longest setting... I wind up with the sling mount against my face. I am not big either... 5'9", 170 lbs. I also wish the handguards could be swapped out rather than being part of the upper.

So it sounds like you just want people to help you justify your purchase of this very expensive rifle?

Um... OK. It's a nice rifle.

Ive looked into the Scar 17 and while I will never discount it as being a great rifle, I decided to go a different way for one single reason. Barrel length. I cannot personally abide a 16" barrel on a .308 unless its intended for suppressed/subsonic use. I went with a Vepr .308 due to the availability of barrels in the 20" range. The Vepr can be a little heavier depending on barrel length, but thats about the only real tangible disadvantage.

I couldn't stand the folding stock.

Swapped it out for an adapter with AR15 collapsible stock (Troy).

I had the same issue with barrel length, and decided to get an M&P 10 instead and mod it to my specifications. Too early to tell if that was a good decision... it came from the factory in an undergassed condition, and I haven't got around to drilling out the gas port yet.

So it appears you're just looking for a fluff job on your choice of rifle? Not the least bit interesting.

The SCAR17 is a fine rifle depending on your intended use, however there are better and I own better options. The 16" barrel isn't one of its issues, check the ballistics.

I also own the SCAR17.

No need to justify just to testify

OK, with quotes like "this supreme weapon", "refrain from the talk about the reciprocating charging handle", and "Go back to call of duty", that's not what it sounds like.

If you don't want to hear valid praise and criticisms of the design, you are probably in the wrong place.

This thread seems to have filled to the brim with failure.

If you have a specific question, maybe a more focused thread would work out better.
