I shot a mink yesterday while hunting muskrats. I am hardly an experienced tanner, but feel compelled to use the fur. Unfortunately I nicked the scent gland while skinning and got it on the fur. Can I just wash it with dish soap to get rid of the stench, or do I have to do something special? Is the fur ruined?

Maybe some of the remedies people use when their dog gets skunked would work.

I've seen tomato juice recommended, a friend swears Listerine is what works best.

The fur is fine.
The scent glads about the B hole and under the tail will teach you fast how to properly skin any of the weasel family; Wolverine, Otters, Mink, Weasels, and a couple others.
Take and place it in a can of cornmeal, and leave a gap at the top. Put a lid on it, tape it shut and put it in the back of your car, motorcycle, or whatever you have that bumps down the road and scrubs/absorbs the scent oils over a few days.
