I'm still planning an ultra-lightweight build. My philosophy is that I am willing to spend some money on things like a lightweight BC, carbon fiber handguard, etc. but I'm not planning to spend a lot of money chasing fractions of an ounce on things like titanium pins, aluminum dust cover, etc.

blueskyjaunte let me try out his CAV 15 lower and I liked it and plan to go that route. Saves about a pound on the lower but by the time you add a stock and buffer tube, you are looking at about a pound and a half savings. That's a hell of a good start.

I also got some good feedback on pencil barrels. Now I'm asking about light weight bolt carriers (I plan on using adjustable gas).

What is out there, and how much weight savings for the cost?

Mike

That Titanium BCG is very expensive. I may have to use my M16 carrier for a few months.

I'm thinking of going with the following parts:
CAV 15 Lower
Mag Tactical Magnesium Upper with the FA removed and plugged.
BCM-BRL-MID-14-ELW-F-STD: fluted 14.5" .625 lightweight barrel with no handguard cap shoulder)
BCM-KMR10: magnesium 10.5" handguard weighs only 4.1 oz (6.3 oz with barrel nut)

Possibly save my money for the Boomfab later.

i'm working on a similar build right now. upper and lower from magtactical and the BCM KMR and barrel, but I'm going to stick with a standard weight carrier. not going so well at the moment. will post review once the drama is sorted
