I am looking to add my first AR10 type rifle in .308/7.62 to my collection. I will be plinking and paper punching out to 300 yds. I know Armalite and several others make a good shooter but, not sure as to how much I need to spend or what barrel length is best for me. I am looking for accuracy over portability or cqb needs.
I am somewhat confused about the mags that the different models use.
Also what scope would you recomend for me?
Thanks

Really depends on budget, Wilson makes one that is guaranteed 1/2 moa but starts at $3000
Look for a 20"-24" bull barrel, the extra few inches might make a slightly flatter trajectory between 200 and 300 yards.
I would suggest a free float hand guard if you are shooting for accuracy.
Most off the shelf gun shop AR-10s are about 1-2 moa guns, mine runs about 1.5".
Rock River makes a nice gun but there is a waiting list and they use FN patterned mags. If you are bench shooting you probably want to run 5 round mags so you can sand bag without a big mag getting in the way.
for pure bench shooting I would suggest going 6-24 scope . If you want to hunt occasionally I would say go with a 4-16.

I prefer the Armalite AR-10 Carbine with a 16" light barrel.

The RRA platform is rock solid, but weights a pound more for the same 16" carbine.

My suggestion is the DPMS TAC20 with a Buckmaster 6-18X40 scope. I have one and it is a great 1 MOA shooter, no malfunctions (that is with reloads too), inexpensive to purchase and great value. The only modification I suggest is a trigger job. I did some very light polishing on the trigger and sheer - that's it.
