just got done reading. ouch my head hurts! i actually registered over there at one time then i realized that trying to engage some of those folks in discussion hurts more than banging my head against a brick wall, so now whenever i feel the need to post there, i just go headbutt the wall and save myself the trouble. such intelligent thread titles over there like "F*** guns!" well i guess he won that agruement. i mean dang man, how do i compete with that?

Uhh you might want to "un-hot" that link...

At arfcom, thats the standing order, because after a bunch of people follow said link, a bunch of DUH trolls show up and uhh... troll.

BenEzra's got his head on straight over there, though, as do a few others. I don't know how they put in that much time and patience day after day.

Bobarino- since I fall into neither the "Democrat" nor "Progressive" category, I could not in good conscience register there.

The dems like Lefty48197 (48197 is a Ypsilanti, MI zip code- right next to the socialist paradise of Ann Arbor, MI) are our best friends. He is almost completely ignorant on gun issues and will fight tooth and nail to keep the Democrats in a losing fight. If the Democrats ever dropped their stance on firearms and laid low on the topic for a while, they would attract a heck of a lot more votes.

Michigan is a great example of untapped Democrat resources- lots of union members but who are also hunters/gun owners. First day of deer season is practically a state holiday. They may not vote Republican, but they may not make an extra effort to vote anti-RKBA either.

For anyone who hasn't gone over to the Democratic Underground- it is worth it just to see the predominantly coherent arguments by Democrat gun owners (universally derided as "Gun Nuts" or "Gun Huggers") vs. the foaming at the mouth diatribes by the anti-gun types. One typical example: Lefty48197 goes off about the 5.7 pistol, repeating the misinformation spread by HCI and the Brady Bunch. When proved wrong, he simply pretends the information doesn't exist.

Kind of like watching people eat various unsavory items on a reality-TV program.

LOL they're saying the cops planted the gun on the MMM activist who got busted. Oy, you just can't argue with these people because the basis for everything they say is a conspiracy theory that MUST be true but CAN'T be proven.

I came to a realization the other day- there are two types of people- thoughtful ones, and unthoughtful ones.

The thoughtful ones, even antis, can eventually come around with reasoning and fact.

The unthoughtful ones, once they take a set against something like guns, no words in the world are gonna bring them around. There ain't no point in trying.

So now I try to determine how intellectually honest and thoughtful a person is before even starting in with guns.

Lete them babble on -- in fact, we should encourage them. When they've lost a few more elections, they'll come to see "Gun Control" as the third rail of politics.

What could be better for us? :p

I can only stomach that site for about 30 seconds til I am ready to vomit... a few posts and I had my fill for the next decade. I especially love the UK fools that feel the need to chime in. I am sure having a loved one raped before their eyes or being accosted by armed thugs who do not abide by those precious anti-gun ideals would change the tune of most of those parties that have no business even talking about firearms.. I would wager most of them have never even seen one outside the hands of law enforcement.

I was pleasantly surprised by the gun forum over there. While I expected a lot of Democrat drivel, I also saw some logical posts. CO LIBERAL over there is way off-base in his logic, but there is not talking to him on that one. I won't register there because I just can't stomach the Democrat side of the uni-party.

Oh, before the Democrats on this board get angry about me calling it drivel, I get equally disgusted with the amount of Republican drivel on this board.

Hmmm.......

7 visits to Demo Under, and 7 barf-soaked keyboards, all in a cumulative time of less than 10 minutes.

Anyone see a pattern here? ? ? ?

All this talk of going to DU and trying to speak logic to those incapable of it reminds me of a saying from my dearly departed grandfather.

Actually, there are a lot of pro-gunners over there, and on a lot of other progressive/liberal forums.

Gun control is NOT a core liberal issue, and the jihad against nonhunting-style guns was incorporated into the Democratic party platform through the efforts of communitarians, not liberals. The communitarians are a rather odd group with centrist social views and an extremely authoritarian (almost Nazi, IMHO) view of the role of government in the life of the individual. Bill Clinton and a number of other prominent "New Democrats" were heavily influenced by communitarian think tanks on the gun issue. If you read through a lot of the DU threads, you'll find a broad spectrum of far-left libertarians defending the 2ndA.

There are also gun-hating authoritarians on the far right. Wasn't William J. Bennett involved in crafting the Bush I import restrictions that became 18 USC 922(r)?

benEzra....Got it. Gun Control is not a core liberal value. Check. Roger That.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Of course gun control is not a core liberal value.

That's why Bill Clinton rammed it down our throats.

That's why Al Gore campaigned for it in 2000.

That's why the only Senate vote John Kerry came off the campaign trail to cast was for the renewal of the AWB.

That's why Ted Kennedy, Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Chuck Schumer, Mark Pryor, Blanche Lincoln, and just about every other significant Dem. congress critter wholeheartedly supports gun control legistation.

That's why Clintonoid Donna Dee Thomases set up the Million Mom March.

That's why the city directors of San Francisco want a total gun ban in their city (hmmm....I didn't know San Fran's government was a bunch of William Bennet conservatives!)

That's why Daley of Chicago is such a hard core gun rights supporter, because he's a liberal Democrat, right?

Sure....gun control is not a core liberal value..........

benEzra:

Well I learned something ... :scrutiny:

The word "Communitarian," decribing a person that has "centrist social views and an extremely authoritarian (almost Nazi, IMHO) view of the role of government in the life of the individual" is new to me.

Labels are a dangerous thing because they are sometimes applied without a real basis. and sometimes with mud-slinging in mind. But I would agree that your label comes closer to Bill Clinton then "Liberal" does.

But if you are right I must conclude that the present Democrat Party is controled by these Communitarians, as it would seem that they dominate both the national leadership and the primaries.

And yes, the Republicanians have their own Communitarians too. :banghead:

So one can change the label, but the person or party's veiws remain, and this is what we are fighting - and frankly, I don't see the Democrat's values or position on any issues changing. They simply want to restate them so people will think they are.
