Has anyone found a way to mark the position of a Schuster plug in the M1 Garand for different ammo loads? Would be nice to just know where to crank the screw to go from one ammo type to another rather than having to figure out each time.

I think you could file a notch on the front of the front of the plug and another on the edge of the allen screw, line the two up with the plug nearly flush as a starting point, and then make a note of the number of rotations and the final wench position when optimum function is achieved.

My thought was to buy an extra Schuster if I settled on more than one load for my M1, electro-pencil the front, and then just swap the whole plug.

BTW, has anyone tried using the Schuster with significantly lighter loads than M1/M80 ball? I've had this notion to someday try shooting 7.62x51 handloaded to mimic the ballistics of the .276 Pedersen (125 grains at 2700 fps) in my .308 Garand.

I'm kinda late to this party, and I'm not trying to be a wet blanket, but... and this is just me thinking... how much does an adjustable Schuster plug cost these days? Multiply by how many loads you might use. I figure it's a matter of spending ammo to readjust one plug vs buying so many plugs and spending ammo to set each one. I see this getting real expensive real fast.

I tend to compare this to the GarandGear ported plug I recall discussed around here. I've looked over the data they present and considering you just screw it in, torque it, and sight in without having to adjust the vent, the ported plug seems to be simpler than Schuster's adjustable vented plug(s) as y'all are discussing using them.

That having been said, I don't know of anybody testing either plug... Schuster or GarandGear... with loads lighter than M2 ball. So there's still the question of whether or not it'll function.

Interesting video. Actually, I'd wondered about the GarangGear plug's top end of effectiveness. According to Ian and his buddy, it's not near as far as they advertise.

I also noticed Ian and his buddy were saying the Schuster vented plug uses different sizes of apertures you change out. The Schuster I saw... new plug, not installed... they said was click adjustable and it didn't have extra screws. I'll have to look at the Schuster site, but I don't recall this other version.

Yeah, I purchased mine about five months ago and it came with just the basic adjustment screw plus the narrower set screw. Perhaps the design has been simplified since they got their's.
