Arnold Schwarzenegger objected to his figure carrying a gun
Arnold Schwarzenegger has settled a legal action against a company who produced a "bobblehead" doll of him in a suit toting a gun.
The Hollywood actor and governor of California objected to his image being used for the bobbing-head toy.

The settlement allows Ohio Discount Merchandise to produce a figure of Mr Schwarzenegger but without a gun.

Part of the profits will go towards the governor's Arnold All-Stars after-school charity programme.

The redesigned $19.99 dolls will be available online.

"We're very happy with the settlement, and we look forward to the release of the new Arnold Schwarzenegger bobblehead doll," said Todd Bosley, co-owner of Ohio Discount.

Mr Schwarzenegger's lawyer Martin Singer said the actor turned politician was pleased with the outcome of the settlement, and an end to the unauthorised use of his image.

"And he's happy to see the money going to his charity," Mr Singer added.

The original Schwarzenegger bobblehead doll was created from an idea by Washington lobbyist John Edgell that included models of several Democrat presidential candidates, to raise money for cancer and children's charities.

Mr Bosley of Ohio Discount said he has since severed ties with Mr Edgell, who is disputing the settlement.

Mr Edgell says he has now produced a prototype doll called Governor Girlie Man - in reference to the term recently used by Mr Schwarzenegger to describe some Democratic lawmakers.

He said he also wanted to press ahead with the gun-toting Schwarzenegger doll.

"It was a political statement to tweak Arnold because he pledged to support an assault weapon ban and hasn't done anything," Mr Edgell said.

"Also because he stars in all these violent movies and has a pro-kid image."

This doesn't really bother me at all.

It's his image, he's free to have it to his liking.

I think he did what he wanted, which is commendable.

I agree he's a schmuck for objecting to the doll carrying a gun (especially since he's made a large fortune by carrying a gun on screen), but as for him protecting his copyrighted image (his face) I have no problem with that.

His image is his as much as if he wrote a book the book would be his, or if he invented a widget the widget would be his ... no fair making copies of his book or his widget and selling them as your own.

Hey, just like Jesse Ventura! I warned you...

but as for him protecting his copyrighted image (his face) I have no problem with that.

Actually, since he's a public figure, they'd have the right to use his image. But of course after an expensive court battle.

Actually I think he's smart in doing that. The charity the profit is going towards is an after school program. If it's an after school program they would probably not want guns around. As much as I am for guns I am also aware they probably should not be used here. I would love it if this after school program supported firearms safety and awareness classes and target practice, but it probably doesn't. So going with theme of supporting his after school program he may not want the subject of guns to be involved. Now if it was to support a local gun club than he may want the gun in his hand. However for this occasion a concealed carry gun may be appropriate.

I also realize that as a public official his face/personality/image is able to be used. However if done in a manner in which brings him a bad name(in his eyes) it can be disputed that they shouldn't be allowed to use his image.

We all probably like the idea of him carrying a gun, but his charity probably does not.

Some blissninny's would probably think he's passing out evil black rifles at an after school program. "It's for the children"

IMO, it's totally different when a doll of the Terminator is carrying a gun than from the governor carrying a gun. We all know that the Terminator is fake and that it's a movie and that's what the Terminator does in the movie. But the governor doesn't carry a gun to legislators.

IMO, it's totally different when a doll of the Terminator is carrying a gun than from the governor carrying a gun. We all know that the Terminator is fake and that it's a movie and that's what the Terminator does in the movie. But the governor doesn't carry a gun to legislators.

You know guys, this one can be called either way. Given what his role is now, the parody doll in question was rather brutal. And I sure as hell know what brutal parody feels like .

Consider that by calling Arnold the "gun nut governor" in that fashion, the purveyors of that doll make it HARDER for Arnold to veto the various anti-gun bills that will hit his desk.

Any stance he makes in our defense will be described as a "knee jerk pro-gun reaction done without thought for the specific issue", which would NOT BE GOOD for him or us.

Got it yet? That doll wasn't just an attack on him. Functionally, politically, it was an attack on everyone on this forum.
