I am in the market for getting a scope for my newly acquired Greek SAR 8.
The furthest range of engaging would be around 100 yards.
And my price range is below 400.

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

It comes with optics for that. They are made of iron (or aluminum) :)

But seriously, at that range look at some kind of red dot. Aimpoint maybe....

Keep in mind before you read what I post, that I am a fan of the HK...

The HK platform is the most awkward for scoping. There is a reason that most HKs you see have claw marks from mounts, but no scopes can be seen. The mounts tend to be high, the scopes crowd your face because the charging handle limits how far forward you can set them. The unique recoil impulse of the HK is not scope friendly.

Sure, there are many factory scoped variants. However, they use special stocks with extensions to gain back the eye relief, cheek pieces to get your head up, and special buffers to soak up the recoil and prevent scope eye.

The only solution to date I've liked is a special ring compact ACOG:

+1 on using the irons for 100 yard shooting... provided you don't have an eye problem of some sort. Unless you're trying to make a 100 yard benchrest gun out of this H&K clone, I'd skip the scope (and if you are, there are more suitable platforms available!) Can't use irons effectively? http://www.appleseedinfo.com

My PTR91 shoots just fine way out past 100 yards with the stock iron sights, provided the nut behind the bolt does his part.

Thanks for the info

And yes I do have an eye problem, near sighted.

And im fairly sure I cant perform a precise shot at 100 yards with just irons.

If you're having eye troubles, a dot sight, something like an EOTECH, would probably be the hot ticket.

Ever since I had LASIK, my eyes don't work well with forward mounted rear sights, like AKs or Mosin Nagants. Peep sights still work fine, though.

Scoping a G-3 ? Do a web search for Dan's Sporting Goods and click on the Hensoldt Fero Z-24 scope. German built military grade glass 4x fixed with claw mount designed for the G-3. $375 for a brand new in the wrap scope and mount. It doesn't get any better than that. Mine is perfect.

...Hensoldt Fero Z-24 scope...designed for the G-3...
Designed for the G3, but doesn't solve any of the G3 scoping issues, other than being short enough to not interfere with the charging handle.

My major issue with scoping G3s is that on most rifles, you adjust the scope to fit your shooting style. On the G3, you adjust your shooting style to fit the scope.

I think the 4x Fero-Z is a great choice in this package. It is a fun rifle, and this might work well for you. Don't worry too much about what other people seem to think is best for you in this regard. Get what you want, buy what you need to make it work for you, and enjoy it!

Regards,
Stubb.

Notice that Stubbi has the Magpul stock. I'd consider that a Must Have for scoping the G3 or you'll never get a good cheek weld.

That stock makes all the difference in the world.
