Scope caps (better than Butler Creek)

I like the bikini covers as well. Mostly cause I'm cheap. When I pull my gloves out of my coat and lose the caps in the woods I'm not out that much $$$. The flip up caps bother me so I've never used them.

As for whether you like flip-up caps or not might depend on where you hunt. In this part of the world there is a good chance it will be raining or snowing during hunting season. To me they are practically a necessity.

I see 2 of the bikini cover guys are from TX and NM. :)

True but I can take the cover off in about the same amount of time it takes to flip the Butler Cree ones up. I guess its all what you are used to. If no rain or snow I leave them off, but I agree here in the north something is generally falling out of the sky that time of year.

I went ahead and ordered the tenebraex

They look similar to the covers on my Premier scopes. I'd like to get some for my Nightforce 3-15x50 F1 since the BC covers broke.

Let us know how those work out, I need a couple sets of covers might as well get something besides the bc's, even tho I've never busted one.

They look like a better option than Butler Creek. Time will tell. The objective end attaches with an adaptor that screws in. The ocular cap has a cinch ring with a torx screw that secures it

Those are really slick!

I looked at them a little closer the other day, and it appears they are scope specific....I'm not cool enough to own any of the specifics, but if I did those would probably be on them.

oooo I had not, the couple places i looked at them for sale listed them by scope model. gonna have to look thru that now.

@Nature Boy, I've got three sets coming in next week so thanks for starting this thread. I haven't had any covers on my NF for at least two years, in part because the BC never fit that well and didn't last. I'm looking forward to putting on the new ones from Tenebraex.

Would you be sure to post your thoughts after installation.

Absolutely. I requested sets for my Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x50mm F1 and a pair of Vortex Viper PST FFP scopes, one is 6-24x50mm and the other is a 4-16x50mm. The NF ocular bell rotates when the magnification is changed which is a PITA since the B&C cover rotates with the bell. The objective cover broke and I've left off the ocular cover for the reason mentioned. The covers on my Premier scopes have a ratchet system that allows the cover to rotate to any position relative to the bell housing which would be beneficial on the NF, and based on Tenebraex's website and the photos provided by @Nature Boy it looks as if these covers have the same feature. I should have them early next week so will report back with photos and some kind of explanation.

Three sets arrived today ... took almost three weeks to get them from Canada via UPS ground! One set is for my NF and the other two for a couple of Vortex Viper PST models. Just like the set @Nature Boy received, the objective covers have an aluminum adapter that threads into the bell housing, and the ocular cover uses a compression ring mount with the help of a small screw. They're very similar to the covers that came on my Premier scopes and certainly look to be higher quality than BC. I like the ability to easily rotate the cap to any position, and the locking feature when the cap is open is a plus too. I'll get them mounted today and post a couple of photos.

Here are some photos as promised. I'm really pleased to have a good set of covers back on the NF. I also like the way the cover ratchets around the part that's fixed on the ocular housing. In the case of the Nightforce this is a "must have" because the entire ocular housing rotates when the magnification is adjusted. The BC I was using didn't have that feature and I was always messing with the cap to make sure that it wasn't in the way. Pictures 1 through 5 are self explanatory. 6, 7 and 8 show the cover rotating with the ocular bell as the magnifiction changes. 9 and 10 show the cover being rotated relative to the ocular bell which basically allows me to keep the cover in the same position for different magnifications. I've also shown the covers folded back in the normal position in photo 4 and locked in every other photo in which the covers are open. The BC covers don't have the locking option so maybe that's why they break ... flapping around during recoil. The only advantage that the BC has over the Tenebraex (that I can see) is the red push button release for the rear cover.

I installed a set of covers on one of my Vortex Viper PST scopes and yanked off the rubber eye-cup on the ocular bell since it was in the way. I figured that the eye-cup was held in mechanically but it turns out it was glued in. Oh well, I didn't like the eye-cup anyway and no one will ever know with the cover installed.

Nice stuff guys.

Only thing I found that works for hard rain and snow are the Luepold scope covers.Rifles sit on bipod for hours at a time in nasty conditions, with very little protetction. The slip on covers not only protect lenses but, turrets and keep most of the water from running down in action.

Although,I've never actually broken any flip up caps, really don't like the obstructed view.On target rigs we just thread up some plastic and screw them on,not a weather or tacticool prop though.

I have Leupold screw in lens caps that are exceptional, though not as convenient as flip-ups. Mine not only look great, but fit like a glove the way a precision part should.

Same here. Most of my scopes are Leupold and all my Leupold scopes have the Leupold screw in caps. I gave up on the others years ago.
