I need a scope for a 338 lapua. Has anyone used the night force 5.5x22x56? Any suggestions on a scope for the savage 110BA?

I have several NF...hard to go wrong unless you put a benchrest version on it.

NXS all the way.

What's your budget?

EDIT: Also, how far do you want to shoot?

I would like to stay under 2000. 500 to 1000 yards.

Bushnell Elite Tactical optics have good reviews, but you should have no problem swinging a used NF for under 2k.

Check Snipers Hide sales forum...always deals to be found.

500-1k is nothing for that caliber. Make sure you get quality rings and a 20 MOA angled base. Should have no problem keeping a 100 yard zero either.

The 110BA has a 20 MOA scope rail. Would I still need the 20 MOA angled base?

New users registrations are not being accepted on snipers hide at this time. I hope they open it up soon.

Nope...if it is built in, buy some nice rings and a scope.

Are you shooting handloads or *gulp* buying factory ammo?

I will be reloading. I haven't shot the rifle yet. Still trying to get it setup. I bought 100 lapua cases. From what I hear I should be able to get 10 loads a piece out of them. Cant wait to start shooting it. I am waffling on the scope. I will be stuck with it for a very long time so I want to be sure I will like it.

NF F1 in mils.

I'll will never buy a scope that's not FFP mil/mil again. NF's FFP reticles are top notch, especially the gen ll mil

Are you familiar with the difference between first focal and second focal plane optics? If not, you should familiarize yourself...it's important for what you're wanting to do.

Mil or MOA doesn't much matter to me...I have both and have no problem switching between them. If I buy more precision optics, odds are I'll go mil though.

I'm not trying to sound like a prick, but is this your first long range rifle? The reason I ask is because I wouldn't recommend a 338 lapua as a starter long range round. In order to become proficient at long range, you should put alot of rounds down range. 338 is not exactly cheap practice. I usually recommend a beginner start out with a 6.5 creedmoor or some similar cartridge.

Having said that, check out the Vortex Razor 5-20. It competes very well with NXS's. You get a ffp reticle, great warranty, zero stop, and matching adjustments to reticles. You have the option of 5mil or 10mil knobs and several great reticles. Having used this scope for a couple years now, it hasn't let me down once.

It's hard to directly compare objective size unless light transmission and optical design is similar. Make sure you know what you want out of a scope before you start picking out models. Reticles, MOA, MIL, turret designs, mounts, features, etc. The SS HD line has a good following. You can still browse the optics suforum of The Hide even if you can't post. Using .338LM inside 1000 yards is sort of a waste, and not challenging. I started with a Sako TRG-22. I still haven't outgrown it and it'll be a long time before I'll rebarrel it to .260.

I've heard good things about the SWFA SS optics, although I've never had the opportunity to shoot through one.

It does have the options that most people want in a precision optic. Those features being:

FFP
30mm tube (or more)
.1 mil adjust
10 mils/rev
30 mils total travel
side focus

On the other hand, I had a buddy buy a 5.5-22 NF for $1680 delivered the other day. Unfortunately, I don't know where he purchased it from. Knowing the build quality of the NF, I know where my money would go...
