Im working on my AR build and now its time to plan / order optics.

I looked at several scopes on SWFA, but I have some questions / concerns.

So far I would like to get a Millett 4-16X50
http://www.swfa.com/pc-11722-1395-millett-4-16x50-tactical-30mm-riflescope.aspx but at under 300, Im afraid the thing will have just plan crappy glass.

There are several others in the ballpark like a Burris fullfield tac 30 4.5-14X30, Nikon prostaf 3-9X40 with laser rangefinder @ $300.

Then there is some more expensive options like the Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 @ $750, Leupold Mk 2 4-12X40 @630 and
Niteforce 3.5-15X50 NXS with larue tactical spr mount (what Im hoping to get anyway) for $1600.

Can anyone talk me into or out of one of these choices or something comparable?

Well the Burris FFII Tac is much better glass than the Nikon Prostaff, it's glass quality is better than the Buckmaster, and nearly as good as the Monarch. The one thing I don't like about the Millet is it says multicoated lens, not Fully Multicoated Lens. That generally means the interior lens are only single coated which will not be as good with controlling glare and maximizing light transmission.

On my two precision AR's I have a 2.5-10 X 50 Weaver Classic Extreme on the 6 x 45, and the .223 has a FFII 4.5-14, although I just mounted an Intensity 4-12 AO on it to try out, they have them on closeout at Natchez and were just too cheap not to try. Both are good scopes, although the Weaver has much better glass.

I've got a Burris 4-16x scope on a varminter and while the optics are decidedly clear... I think 16x is almost TOO high powered. It's really easy to 'lose your target' without a spotter if you come off target at all (like for a follow up shot on a long range varmint) it depends on what you are going to use it for.

I think 500 yds is the MAX this rifle will ever see. Im not dead set on a 4-14, I guess a 3X9 would be just as good. It won't be a varminter

ive got a nikon monarch 5-20 and it is incredible...300 dollars less than my other leupold and just as clear...i would say this scope will do anything a AR is capable of....it sits on my dpms and shoots ground squrrels at 300 yards no problem

Well 16x at 500... you are still within reason. The problem is when you dial to 16x on a target at say 300 yards.. 9x or 12x is plenty.

I recommend Burris, not only as a Colorado company, but because they make excellent scopes. But on an AR 15? 4x 16x might not even FIT ergonomic wise.

If you're considering a Nightforce or Leupold, I'd look at the Trijicon Accupoint scopes.

In the future I'm planning on buying a Trijicon Accupoint TR-22 scope. It has fiber optic and tritium inserts for high visibility and glass every bit has good as Leupold VX3, Mark 4, etc. It's a 30mm scope, so it has enough elevation adjustment to shoot at 1,000 yards. It's around $750. Personally, I think it's better than a Leupold Mark 4. Buds Gun Shop currently has it for $714.

I understand the scope doesn't have to be a full power. I probably will spend most of its life around the 7ish power.

What about target turrets, are they needed?

After come consideration Im planing on a Weaver 3-15x50 tactical or the Leupold Mk 2 4-12x40. Both are at the 650ish price point.

Does anyone know about these scopes or a good mount?
