I just ordered my first true Big Bore hunting rifle. Got the Guide Gun from Ruger in Ruger 375. This will come with Ruger Rings which mount directly to the rifle.

My goal with the rifle is to take large and medium game in North America at ranges out to 500 yards maximum. I have taken deer and other Critters out to 300 yards with my next largest caliber to 300 Win Mag. I plan to train to shoot accurately out past 600 yards.

I doubt I will actively go out after Dangerous Game other than big Hogs. I plan to take moose elk deer and possi black bear.

What is your advice on scopes for this rifle? Also what is your advice to not have this rifle take my eye out with scope?

Well I always put Leupold 1.5-6 Varix 3 on dangerous game type rifles, but you want pretty long range so get a Varix3i 3-9 which can be gotten around $400 with a CDS turret and have Leupold build you a custom turret for a long range load you will be using, a factory equivalent to what you expect is a smart move and easier. At 100 yard zero it should be dead on anyways with the CDS system. Can't beat the Warranty and service and the Leupold Varix 3 are light, brilliant and rugged.

I think the VX-3i in a 2.5-8X36 is pretty much the perfect compromise scope on that rifle. If not that I'd err on the smaller side rather than bigger. Something with 1X on the low end would be my 2nd choice. And if primarily used for close work would be my 1st choice.

FWIW a 375 is considered a medium bore not big bore. And for your stated purposes your 300 WM is a better choice. The 375 is a good dangerous game stopper that is versatile enough to still be used for deer, elk, moose, and bear. But compared to the 300 you already have isn't superior for that game at those ranges.

If I wanted to hunt everything in Africa and only have one rifle that was versatile enough to also be used for all North American game the 375 is the way I'd go. But if you add a 2nd rifle there are better options for most uses. Using a 375 for everything is sorta like buying a Peterbuilt for picking up groceries, trips to the mall, and dropping the kids off at school.

If you really want to shoot say elk at 500+ yards you will find you need a ballistic solution to do it with that rifle. This one is as tough as it gets, can be tailored to your exact needs, is the latest state of the art in coatings , glass and erector systems, no faultr warranty with the best customer support, Adequate power for the long shots and 3.5 works well down to 100 feet. The 50mm objective really gives you a low light advanTAGE . tHE PRICE IS "BALANCED" WITH THE VALUE OF YOUR GUN imho, . wHILE THE2.5-8 WITH bOONE AND CROCKET IS MUCH TRIMMER AND ALSO A GREAT SCOPE , this one would give you the advantage in a few ways and basically costs the same.

I'd personally go with Gordons suggestion, or something similar, considering your wants.

I also agree with jmrs take on the .375 as a long range option.
Especially from the stubby guide gun. I also think his suggestion as to expectations, and scope is probably realistic.

Yeah, I'm piling on. Of the two cartridges you mention, the .300 Win Mag is the better of the two for long range. The .375 would be better closer in. I'd put a 1.5-6x or 2.5-8x on the .375 and something in the 4-16x range on the .300 Win Mag. But that's just me.
