I hope some of the readers can shed some light on this. I have a Dan Wesson Model 744 in 44 Magnum with the barrel shroud and screw in barrel. I cannot find anywhere mounts to put a scope on this gun. I know years ago DW had pistol packs and some came with scopes. The DW web site was of no help for they did not show anything with having scope mounting capability.
Does a person need to have the shroud tapped for a flat type weaver base to mount a scope? Any help would be appreciated. The gun is about 3or 4 years old and is stainless. Curt

Dan Wesson 744 , 44 mag scope mount

Thanks Moonclips appreciate it much probably need a gunsmith to drill and tap but that is no problem Curt in Washington State

Both Burris and Millet used to make a scope mount for the Large frame. My .357 Max Supermag has a set of Millet rings made clamp directly to the vent rib.
Try a search on Brownells website www.brownells.com
If they're available you'll probably turn something up there.

Take Care

You could also get a shroud that's made to take rings to mount a scope. It may be a little pricier though.

DW scope mounts

You can get a drilled and tapped shroud from DW.

On one of my DW 44's I have a scope mount that clamps to the rib. I'll have to look and see what it is when I get home tonight.

Dan Wesson does make a weaver type mount for their revolvers. It requires tapping the shroud. Their website does really suck though. You could give them a call and you will get more information.

There are often DW scope mounts on the auction sites

Ebay.com
gunbroker.com
auctionarms.com

Some are clamp on, some are drill and tap. There are several different makers and types. Just keep searching those site for "dan wesson" and you will find them from time to time.

Roll Tide

Many years ago, I had one of the old Dan Wesson's in .357. I took the shroud for my 8" barrel and had it drilled/tapped to fit a "generic" base of some kind that I had. It worked great.

My old Dan Wesson .357 full underlug vent rib was a shooter.

Tried it with a red dot scope, affixed via a mount that I think was made by B-Square. If I can find it, and if it'll fit (I no longer have the DW) the .44 variety, I'll be happy to send it to you, and you can send me what you think it's worth.
