I have recently bought a 91/30 and i am looking for a scope mount that is reliable and does not require gunsmithing??? any advice plzz

try ticbite supply i just ordered one , it fits on where the leaf sight sits.knock out the pin insert the new mount put pin back in. i think it was $19.00

Greetings,

I am selling one that I used on my Nagant. It is good, does not need any gunsmithing. I shot around 100 rounds and it works. I am selling simply because I rarely shoot the Nagant (too much recoil for my bummed shoulder) now and I put the scope on another rifle.

Thank you

thanks but i want info on any good ones that i can buy that will keep it zeroed in.....unless there is none that can do it then i will buy one that will be......

There are hundreds of threads on this topic in the archive. Mounting a scope on the receiver is inherently difficult. The PU style mount the Soviets eventually came up with is about the best anyone can do. And there's still lots of smithing involved.

If you are interested in a scout style setup things improve a bit. A fellow called Darrell makes the best no-gunsmithing scout style mounts for a LER scope that uses the existing tangent mount. I've owned a few, all were top quality.

+1 for redman. I believe i got the same thing from the same website. I think the brand is UTG. The price is around $25 IIRC. It'd still let you use the stripper clip. I put a 2x7 ncstar LER scope and it works great.

On a 91/30, the rear sight assembly is mounted to the barrel on a dovetail. If you drive out the two pins that attach the rear sight, heat the sight base gently with a small torch(the base is soldered on with a tiny dab of solder), then tap the base forward towards the muzzle, it will come right off. You'll have to remove the top handguard to do this.

Under that sight base is an approx. 3/8" dovetail milled right on top of the barrel. Clean that up with a file, order a Leapers offset air rifle/.22 scope mount http://www.opticsplanet.net/leapers-accushot-30mm-bi-direction-integral-offset-mount.html , and an NcStar high-eye-relief scout scope from eBay http://www.ncstar-sales.com/proddetail.asp?prod=NC_SPB432B , and you're good to go. This is the Leaper's mount, it's under $15.....

Typical NcStar pistol scope, 4x32. Many to choose from. This one's about $37.....

With a high-eye relief pistol scope, you can see the full field of view from up to a foot away, so you don't need a special bolt with a bent handle, and you can still load the rifle with charger clips.

Lots more info here on this forum..... http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/mosin-nagant/ , just search for "scout scoping the mosin nagant 91/30", there's several threads. Lots of photos too.

Photo of the dovetail (these type mounts don't work too well, the Leapers gets a better bite)....

I've done all this to my 1938 Tula 91/30, but haven't gotten it to the range yet. It's easy to do and not very expensive.

Again, the single clamps don't grip as well....

And the mounts that just replace the rear sight leaf will work, but poorly.....

I "think" this is a Daryl's mount, supposed to be better than the eBay mounts, but they're not cheap....

Yeah, that last one is Darrel's It has four brass locking screws that make for a very tight fit. The only problem I ever had was with a very odd Finnish hybrid mount on an M30.

thanks guys....im going to just go with the PU scope because this gun doesn't have the best bolt on scope mounts thanks guys for the responses

Hey Rondog,
Could you maybe use a mount that has the claws on the bottom, but has a picatiny style mount on top. Giving you the ability to have a picatiny platform further back, towards the shooter, and using a regular style scope. I realize that you would have to correct the bolt issue.

If you can drill & tap a hole, the Rock Solid mount is it's own drill guide, and is probably the best rear mount you'll ever find.

Thats right...ia m going with the one that replaces the rear sight because i dont want to modify and lose the originality of the gun....
