I just recently purchased a new 308.it will primarily be used in woods im thinking like a 2x8 or 3x9 what is the best choice for around 350,00

The Redfield products look great and you can't argue with the price. I just picked up the 2x7.
It's 11 inches and 11 oz. very clear and bright, $150.00 My next favorite scope in this power range is eight bills.

Woods that are cold and damp? Rain and snow? If so, maybe the Bushnell Elite series with RainGuard coated lenses. It really does help with condensation and fogging.

Leupold VariXII are on sale at Cabelas and other places for $239 range great deal. I got one at Cabelas for my Remington 308.

Burris Fullfield II
+2. I've used many scopes in this price range including the VX-II and imo the Burris FFII has the best glass, and is the best scope.

That said, I did read an article where the Vortex Diamondback rated slightly higher, but I've never owned a Diamondback so I can't comment on it too much. I've only looked through one a little, and my initial impressions were I didn't see anything it offered that the FFII didn't.

I picked up my Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 for $375 after shopping around and finding one with an applicable discount code through MidwayUSA. I'm not the most experienced person when it comes to scopes, but I am very impressed with the Conquest.

im not saying they aren't anygood but priced higher than other scopes which has better optics

Do you mean more magnification?

Magnification barely factors into scope cost. You can get a 6-24x scope for under $100 these days. That doesn't mean it'll be clear, hold up to recoil or survive tumbling down the hill with you and your rifle.

Leupolds are certainly not the most expensive scopes, but IMO, represent the best scope for the money when durability and quality are more important to you than just having something with ten thousand power magnification and an objective lens as big as the Hubble.

I won't buy anything but Leupold for my big game rifles.

I have Nikons, Redfields, Weavers, Bushnells and Burris' on some of my other guns, and all have been good scopes. But they're not Leupolds.

Mach I was just comparing the to others brands not magnification opitical clarity there is other with better optics for less

well I have saw a Big Sky II and a Vortex that was better optically and like a 100 less compared to VX3

Nikon Monarch or Buckmasters

I personally like Nikon's & Leupolds, and own both. they are similiar in Quality. Stay away from the Nikon Pro-staff's, and the Leupold Rifleman's, instead upgrade to the Nikon Buckmaster, or the Monarch. Leopold VariX II & III's are also good.
I have a 3x9x50 Nikon Buckmaster on my .270 Win.,with Nikoplex reticle, - I love it. It is clear, holds zero, and comes with a lifetime warranty.- I've killed about 14 whitetails, 1 pronghorn, a Red Fox, and a pile of hogs & feral dogs with that particular set up. ( I did miss 1 elk this year, but it was not the scope's fault, it was the shooter's.) I would not trade that 1 Nikon Buckmaster for 2 Leupold Vari-X II's.

Two of the best places I have found to purchase a scope are: Natchez Shooters Supply and Optics Planet.

Natchez has super deals on refurbished Nikons, (& other brands) http://http://www.natchezss.com/optics.cfm?category=20

Optics Planet has good reviews. Read all the reviews (both the good and bad) before you make the purchase http://www.opticsplanet.net/riflescopes.html

Clarity? FOV? What specifically did you feel was better?

I'm not saying there wasn't something, just that I've never found anything to match a Leupold without spending substantially more money. Nikon Monarch, Weaver Grand Slam, Bushnell Elite, etc. All good scopes, but Leupolds are better in every comparable model (yes, I like my Monarch better than a cheapo Rifleman, but it's not as good as my VX-III).

im not saying not good scopes id love to have a VX3 I feel there unbeatable in durability and holding zero. but do feel others have better optics

I have a Leupold 3x9 40 VXII with a LR Duplex Reticle on my .308 Once you try the LR Duplex you will be spoiled. Two nice hold over dots, figure out where your rifle hits at what distances and you have a great scope for the .308.

Go here http://www.opticsplanet.net/leupold-vari-x-ii-3-9x40mm-rifle-scope.html and they are $289. I have no financial interest in opticsplanet but I have bought from them and had nothing but good experience with their prices and shipping.

Alternatively, take a look on ebay. I have got a couple of great deals there. You can occasionally find a VX III in your price range. The nice thing about a Leupold is they are guaranteed for life and it does not matter if you are first owner or not.

I personally think Leupolds are very over priced. You pay quite a bit for the name and the customer service. You can get scopes with better optics that are just as durable from several other companies. You essentially step up to the next price range for a Leupold. For example the $300 Leupolds are comparable to the $180 Burris and Vortex Scopes. This isn't to say the Leupolds are bad, just that I think you can get a much better scope for the money, and the lower end Leupolds are pretty bad.
