Ok here goes, you all can start laughing now. I have always been under the impression that Picatinny and Weaver rings are the same. Are they and if not what is the difference.
The grooves on a Picatinny rail are deeper. Anything made to fit a Picatinny rail will fit a Weaver base, but not vise versa. Some items made for a Weaver base will fit a Picatinny base, but not all. This is my understanding of the difference.
The major difference is, the width of the recoil cross-slots in the Picatinny rail are wider then a Weaver.
Assuming the rail is made to mil-spec:
Any Weaver clamp will fit any Picatinny rail.
Not all Picatinny clamps will fit Weaver bases, because the cross bolt is too big to fit the recoil slot.
