So, I ordered the Remington 700 SPS Varmint in .308, It should be here Thursday... Doesn't really matter, as I still need to order a scope...

And Rings...

Assuming I go with a scope has a 30mm tube, I'm looking at the Talley rings... I'm sure theres better, as I don't know the difference and these look as good as any... :D

Would these be the right rings??

Also, I think I need this base to mount the rings on???

Or is there something different I should be looking at???

Smullen,
I'm no expert.
I had some vertically split rings & absolutely hated them.

The base you refer to says Remington 7 not 700.

The 1 piece base will be a little harder to deal with loading but is supposed to be more rigid. I find 1 pc vs 2 pc depend on who you talk to & intended use.

I don't think Leupold is the best value, as they were in years past. I do think leupold is still a great starting point. Nikon & others provide them with some good competition.

I just bought a Leupold base for $20 at Academy. I was given a hand me down scope & rings that needed a Leupold base. Leupold rings & mounts seem like an excellent value. They have many options and can be had at local shops. If you do by locally make sure you get the torx/allen wrench and all the screws. I had to ask to see several to compare and put a complete set together. Some were either missing screws or had a mixed set of torx/allen/slotted screws. I was just making sure i got what I was supposed to no extra & no less.

post your intended use & you may get more secific answers.

Have fun & be safe,
