Just saw this up for sale at midway usa a simmons whitetail classic scope 6.5-20x50. T

This is almost exactly the power I was looking for. they're selling it for 109 normally 249. I know simmons are not highly regarded but for this price do you think I should snatch it up? If for nothing else than a nice scope for my 10/22 but ideally for my remington 721 in 270 win.

Here is the link.

It will be strictly for target shooting and not hunting or any kind of competition.

Simmons scopes are good quality scopes. They work. The 6.5-20x50 is a big scope. Big means long and weighty. If your rifle is one of the light weight models it`s going to be top heavy with a scope that size. I have a Simmon`s WTC10 2.5-10x40. It is a midsized scope without adjustable objective. It`s also made in WTC12 2.5-10x50. But the 50mm is also top heavy on a light rifle. Paralax was set at 50yds. at the factory. The granite finish on these scopes is superb. There is hardly any light reflection at all. Best durable and scratch resistant finish that I have ever seen. Wish all scopes had it. The 6.5-20x50 does have adjustable objective which is very desireable in a hunting optic. This power range in a scope seems to be better for target/varmint shooting in small caliber centerfire rifles and the .17 caliber rimfires. A 3x9 or 4x12 is plenty scope for a .270winchester. I have a .270wsm Abolt stainless stalker with a nickle silver Burris FFll 3-9x40 with ballistic plex reticle. The scope is not too big nor too small. The Burris ballistic plex reticle is dead on. No AO but bright and clear as any Leupold VXll or lll. Not as expensive as Leupold. Burris scopes have lifetime warranty.

Rob thank you for your input. This seems like a pretty large price reduction and top heavy doesn't really bother me much as it will be mainly for a bench gun, I don't hunt. I looked at all the reviews on the website and it got excellent reviews out of 100 reviews. Think I am going to pick it up and slap it on my 270. if that doesnt work out, it will be a good scope for my 10/22

Think one would be good for a Rem 700 in 30-06? How about an old single-shot Rem .22? I have those rifles that need new scopes, and I was thinking about that Simmons for both of them.

I would stay away from them. I was hunting deer last season and twisted the magnification ring to 9 power, and then wanted to go to 10 so I twisted a little more and the reticle twisted with it.

I called simmons and they would fix it for about $90...so I bought a new scope. Nikon's and Burris from now on. Good scopes for not a lot of money.

Simmons Scopes were fine until about 4 years ago when they were sold to Meade Optics. Now I'd avoid all of them with the exception of the WTC of which you refer.
I'd like to know how many of these WTC's actually sold for the " MSRP price.
I'm bettin' none! Up until this year they were always offered for $99.00 @Midway. I've got two!
They are a very bright and dependable scope for the $$$ however the reticle is rather thick for targets.
Here, if ya pull the trigger try this and save a couple of bucks!

I have three of the older Aetecs with the Aspherical lens system. They've worked well for me. I would rate them the quality of a Bushnell 3200. I could have spent a thousand bucks on a scope, but for what I do with them they work just fine.

The older stuff especially the 44 Mag and Aetec are great. The current stuff is China's worst.
One of my favorite scopes for 1022's is the OLDER .22 Mag 3X9X32AO often called the 1022T. It was 118.00@ most places........... higher at some.
The current 22 Mag is 59.00.... comes with rings and probably a trip for two to Jamaica:eek:
