I've mounted several scopes in my day but just noticed something that got me thinking.

As I looked in my MidwayUSA book, it showed some scope rings that were two different sizes. The forward ring was taller than the rear.

I never noticed that before and was wondering if anyone has mounted thier scope that way.

I am in the process of putting a 50MM objective scope on my Savage 12FLV and need a new set of rings. I have lows and mediums but to get the front objective off of the barrel I will need high rings.

It would seem odd to me to use a taller ring in the front and a lower in the rear.

What say you?

Was that set of rings for a particular rifle? Say one that had one of the mounting points lower than the other? Or a mis-matched set?

You want the rings the same height in relation to each other-----otherwise kiss that scope tube goodbye.

You'll notice on Ruger rings--for example---the rear ring is taller than the front ring-----but they are the same height when correctly mounted on the rifle.

I figured as much.

I have always used the same height rings.

Just noticed that there were some sets with two different heights.

You can get scope bases with a tilt to them. A badger with 20MOA tilt would be one example of a base for long range shooters, so you don't run out of elevation adjustment in the scope at the longer 1K+ ranges.

I'm looking at the Master Catalog #3 right now. Which rings or page are you posting about? (I can't seem to find what you're describing.)
