I just purchased a used Remington 700 VS left-hand model and a used Leupold VXIII 4.5 x 14 with a 40mm Objective lens and 1" tube. I tried to look up scope ring selection on Leupold and came up with a million choices. I want something with a one piece base and good sturdy rings as low to the bore axis that I can get......any suggestions?

On my 700P I went with the Leupold Mark IV one piece scope base and Burris Signature Zee 1" rings. I went with the "high" rings on my 44mm 1 inch tubed scope, and it's a little higher than it needs to be, but still comfortable to me. I certainly, if I had to do it again, would go one step lower with the rings.

I was impressed with the Burris rings for about $35, and the one piece Mk IV base seemed very high quality.

Leupold makes a very nice one piece base and rings that fit it.

What I use on my Savage, simple and solid.

Or were you looking for something else?

There was just so many to varibles to pick from on the Leupold site that I just wanted a little input. Like mmike87, I didnt want to get one thing and kinda wish I got another.

for this application, i reccomend you go w/ warne base and warne medium rings.

warne stuff is steel, so it is noticeably heavier, but is kind of nice on a varmint application, even though it lacks the style of talleys... warne is a couple steps up from weaver in cosmetics, though.

I hunted far and wide for Warne bases and rings a few months ago when I was trying to mount my Zeiss on my 700P - and quickly became totally disgusted with the availability of quality bases and rings for 700's in general. Perhaps it was just a bad time or something, but no one seemed to have anything.

I am quite happy with the one piece steel Leupold Mk4 base, and the burris signature zee rings are also steel. Their quality seems very good.

I originally wanted Badger rings and bases, but with the 1" adapters it was going to be like $300.00 or more ... :what:

badgers are awesome, but i hate the idea of having to put an adapter in to use 1" scopes.

nightforce makes good ones, too... but, i was trying to keep the cost under control. by the nature of the question, i didn't think somebody relatively new to this would pop $100 for a base and $150 (or more) for rings...

i've been happy w/ warne, but after cabela's stopped carrying them, i've had a harder time getting them - and they are heavy.

farrel makes decent stuff, too, but the base holds everything so high off the bore axis, even low rings don't carry low enough...

dakotasin,

Yeah, buying 1" inserts for the Badger rings really pushes up the cost and doesn't make sense to me. For my 1" tubes, I've got a pair of Leupold Mark IV's I picked up used ($80), and a pair of TPS rings that I bought for all of about $65. Refuse to compromise on one-piece bases tho -- all my sticks wear Badger 20MOA bases.
