Just mounted a 3x9 scope on a 10 22 Ruger. Have yet to shoot or sight it in.

Dumb question for smart answer. Since I wear bifocals, should I be sighting through the reading lens (bottom)?

you should be sighting it in for whatever is your method/position of shooting. I cannot imagine comfortabl shooting through the bottom of the lens on a pair of glasses... many people I know actually remove their glasses while shooting... all depends on the impairement... as far as the reading portion though... leave it to the reading.

NO, you should not be using the bottom of the bifocals.
Your natural head position will have you looking through the regular part of your glasses.

Adjust the scope focus so you have clear cross-hairs when you pull the gun up suddenly and look through it at the sky. Do not stare through it while adjusting the focus.

If you do, your eyes will try to adjust to the out-of-focus scope before you can adjust the scope focus fast enough.

make your choice up front and stick to it, wearing eyeglasses or not (take off, put on repeatedly is a pita though) If do not wera your eyeglasses, do get a good set of shooting glasses
CONSISTENT head position, extremely CONSISTENT, always important in scope shooting, all the more important now

concentrate on consistent head position and cheek weld... get used to pushing eyeglasses up on your nose every shot, or use elastic to hold 'em up... slowing down a tad when shooting for "groups' never hurt anybody nohow
adjust eye relief to your very consistent head position, adjust crosshair sharpness focus to max no matter what your consistent default head/cheek position is (as was advised above, not staring through scope, close and open eyes until just right)
do NOT focus on the target (do adjust AO, if have one for a clear, sharp target view) but FOCUS on crosshairs, NOT on target, same way you would focus on a front sight for open sights or peep sight

(I wear progressive lens eyeglasses)

perverse as it may seem, eyeglasses just force you to pay closer attention to the basics which you might not otherwise

have FUN !

I wear eyeglasses for distance .There are two different lens designs for scopes and binoculars .With one type I can see everything in focus with or without my glasses. With the other type I can only see in focus with my glasses ! Be aware of that !

I don't use my glasses at all when using a scope and I'm both near and far sighted. But then, that's why I use a scope these days. All the scopes I've had have a diopiter adjustment for focus.
