Went looking for a .300WM today, couldn't find the 700P I was looking for and after rejecting a 7mag model 770(the bolt was gritty and rough and not what I would expect in a Rem) I ordered up a 700VLS in .308 Win. Next step is the glass. I want to make this a long range rifle, and want something with mil-dots or a BDC. My budget should be pretty good for the glass because instead of putting it on a McMillan I will float and bed the laminated factory stock myself and save some bucks there...I know Leupold is a good way to go, does anyone have any suggestions as to what model? Or any other makes that would be dependable and suited for ranges up to 1000yds? I could go up to $1200 or so...

Looks like a nice scope...I too have got older eyes, need reading glasses now for anything close and/or small and open sights are nearly un-usable for me...two of my hand-guns are a problem now, my 1911 Kimber is okay, I rue the day I have to put a red-dot on it!

That Viper is looking pretty good to me right now, is the EBR-1 the reticle I want? I'm not familiar with MRAD, I would assume MOA is what I should be looking at...

The mrad is just another form of measurement. Each click is .36" at 100yds with mrad instead of .25" with moa. All of my vortex scopes are mrad, it takes some getting used to. Make sure you get the ffp, it will be a huge help when holding for wind!

Will do, thanks for the advice! Should have the new gun by the end of the week, but it'll have to sit until my work season gets going and I get the scratch saved up...that's going to be hard...

I have a couple of Nightforce scopes (10X & 15X on the top end) and several Leupold Mark 4 scopes (8X to 14X on the top end. I prefer the Leupold scopes. I've bought new Mark 4 scopes and pristine lightly used ones well within your price range.
