Scoping a Browning semi-auto .22?

Hi,

Do you have to remove the folding rear sight on a Browning semi-auto .22 (the takedown .22) in order to install the #60A scope mount or does the fold down sight allow you to install the mount without removing the sight?

I am going to find out in the next few days, for sure, as I have one on order.

I now have a SA-22 with a Burris cantilever mount. It required removal of the rear sight. The mount screws are forward of and behind the rear sight, and there is no "hole" in the mount to permit burying it. You had to drift the rear sight out.

Now the Weaver #60A looks a whole lot like the Burris, except it is for Weaver mounts so it is wider and has cross slots (2) for conventional scope rings.

What's wrong with the Burris? Well, it's too flexible. Being a cantilever, it is not supported at the rear. I'm hoping the Weaver mount's increased width makes it a little stiffer. Also, I believe the Weaver rings are just easier to attach to the mount than rimfire rings are.

What are you going to use for rings?

I have some 1" Weaver quad lock rings coming in with the #60A mount. I think this combo will do ok.

I was planning to use Ironsighter medium rings. (These are a Weaver type 1" ring, and don't have the "see-thru" feature that made Ironsighter a famous name...they're just regular rings.)

The halves fasten with 4 screws so they're probably similar to the Quad-locks.

I just drilled & tapped my receiver and found a Weaver type rail that fit...........worked great & I didn't have to touch the rear sight.

As an aside I also picked up a .22 short feed block and tube and was able to shoot the brick of shorts I picked up years back.......no spring mods whatever & 100% reliable.

i know this is off topic but does any one know how to remove the play from the barrel to action fit? I have an old belgium and im told that there is a way to fix the movment but im not sure how? the gun shoots great Its just that the movment gets on my nevervs?

The Weaver mount works fine. Much less "bending" than the thinner mount. I'll post a picture when I get my camera back from the office.

There is a knurled nut at the end of the barrel, and a small "follower" that clicks into the notches as you turn it. You can adjust this nut for a snug fit when the rifle is assembled. It is generally done as a trial and error process, adjusting when the barrel is detached and then checking the fit.

Be careful not to twist the wood stock when assembling -- there isn't a great deal of strength in the stock for resisting "twisting" and you can split it. I hold the receiver.
