I wrote the following letter to President Bush today, come on guys we need to all pitch in and try to help. We have only ourselves to blame if we do nothing and a "progressive" gets nominated.
Dear Mr. President,
I would like to take a moment to express to you my wishes on the Nominee(s) you will be selecting to the Supreme Court to fill the vacancies left by the departing Mrs. O'Connor and possibly Mr. Rehnquist. I want you to know that I do not approve of Mr. Gonzalez for Supreme Court Justice. Some of his past decisions and comments have indicated that he is not a strict constructionist when it comes to interpreting the Constitution, and we simply cannot afford to appoint someone with that viewpoint. I would like to recommend Mrs. Janice Rodgers Brown, Mr. Alex Kozinski, or Mr. Samuel Alito, Jr. I feel all would be appropriate choices, with a proper view and interpretation of the Constitution, and would make Fine Supreme Court Justices. I also believe either the Honorable Justices Scalia or Thomas would make a fine choice as Chief Justice, in the case of Chief Justice Rehnquist Retiring.
On another note, I would like to thank you for your fine leadership during these horrible past 5 years. You have shown yourself to posses the true capabilities of leadership, and I wish you to know that you have my support. But with one caveat. I am not a knee-jerk republican voter, I have on occasion held my nose and voted for a democratic candidate, but only when that candidate has shown to have a stronger support of the Bill of Rights than the corresponding Republican. I and most of my friends sat out the '92 elections and did NOT vote for your father because of the '89 import ban he passed by executive order. We almost decided not to vote for you when you said you would sign the AWB if it crossed your desk, but once we saw how you used your influence to make sure that legislation would not reach you and that you only said that to appease the soccer moms, we changed our minds. So I would just like remind you, like your father learned the hard way by losing to President Clinton, that gun owners are not a guaranteed Republican voting block.( not that it matters now, you being in your last term, but you can pass it on to other Republicans) Also, Please remember that our Bill of Rights is important, I don't want to lose essential liberties for some illusion of temporary safety.
In closing, thank you once more for you good leadership these past few years, I hope and pray that fortune will continue to shine down upon you and that God will continue to guide your hand.
Sincerely,
Edgar E. Smith IV
P.S. I was only 13 during the '92 elections so I couldnt vote anyway. just a little fib.
