I was wanting to try one of those scout mount and scout scopes on a recently acquired K-31. Can anyone recommend a good scope that would offer sufficient eye relief and good power. I was looking at the Leupold and Nikon scout scopes, but their magnifications are only 2-2.5X. Is there a reason they are so low? Are there any good 4X scout scopes out there that might fit this task?

Burris also makes a great quality Scout 'scope, and you can often find 'em at Natchez SS for a hefty amount less than MSRP. While you might be able to use a 4X LER handgun 'scope in Scout mode, IIRC eye relief becomes more critical and less 'forgiving' as the power count goes up. 2.5X might not give you as much long-range precision as you'd like, but it's gonna be a whole lot better than irons and naked eyes.

The scope needs to be less than 3 power if you want to use the 2-eyes-open "snap shooting" technique. Jeff Cooper writes in detail about this.... try google.
