Our rimfire match director, Bill Parkhurst, came up with an Eggs-tra-special Match yesterday up on Wagnon Mountain at the North Alabama Shooting Association's range. The competitors had five minutes to engage 15 targets from 100 yards with 16 rounds of .22 long rifle ammunition. We used scoped bolt action or semi-auto rifles and the use of a bi-pod or front rest was allowed. Based on the shooters' preferences, they could lien on the bench or shoot from prone – no rear bag was allowed. The twist was the egg in the center of the top row. The shooter could only try for the egg if he or she had already knocked down the 14 steel silhouettes. I got the egg in a tie breaking shoot off with my good friend/arch nemisis, Randy King. My last bullet veered through the egg and clipped the edge of the little dixie cup (employed as a base for the egg)! We put up a target board between the two racks for firing sighters. It was a beautiful morning and a fun match. My wife road with me and we enjoyed lunch in Tuscumbia afterwards.
