I have a new Mark 4 22/45, shot it today and the accuracy is fantastic, so much so that I may hunt with it. When I went to my cleaning room to clean it I found scratches where they put Ruger Mark IV logo on the side, they can be seen and felt but are very light not deep. It looks like when they made the logo that, they tipped the receiver a couple times because the scratches are across the logo some. The scratches are past the logo about 1/2 inch and they're three of them. Anyone else buy a new gun and find later it has scratches?, I was too excited I guess when I got it, to look it over good enough. They aren't deep like I said but can be felt slightly with a fingernail. Thanks

I found out how, here are the pics.

I can't imagine the seller nor the customer not noticing those scratches at the point of sale.
I know, I don't know how I missed them. I was just so excited, I went thinking I was gonna get a Ruger Wrangler and my said pic what ever Ruger I wanted. That shock I guess kept me from seeing them because had I seen them, I would have tried for a better price or passed.

I contacted Ruger, waiting for response. I don't worry about scratches if I do them while using the gun but I have ocd when it comes to something like this from factory or from doing it when not using it. Plus my wife saved to get me this, I thought she saved just enough for a Wrangler and when we got there she said pic any Ruger, being on a budget I still don't know how she saved that much but I wanted a Mark IV for so long that my brain shut down. thanks

I bought a new gun. The dealer apologized for a mar like the stock had been dragged across a round object. He called shop wear and knocked 10% off the price. In the years since then I've put a few dings in it, wore the blue off the sharp edges. Not a big deal to me.

But, yeah, a gun should not leave the factory with handling marks, especially on stocks. I am sure the factory would have unmarred stocks in inventory.

Your wife is a keeper!

Perhaps it is my eyes, but are you sure this was "new"? When I enlarge the pics you posted on another forum, I see 1) slight gauges on the grip screw, 2) gauges of some type on the safety, and 3) build up on the safety itself. I can't imagine any of that occurring within one shooting session.

Perhaps it is only me.....

Old Fart, you're doing the right thing to wait on Ruger!
I just received an email from Ruger just before they were supposed to close, said the gun would have to be destroyed and replaced with a new one. They will talk with me further tomorrow, so I am happy that they are taking care of it. Do they send a label through the mail or have it picked up? I can't print anything as I don't have a printer but could go to library.

I wouldn't be satisfied with scratches like that, but - if it is just a shooter, it won't shoot any different, but - those look like heavy scratches that may have been there before the finish was applied, thus - factory defect.

Yes, they send directions for you to send the pistol back to them prepaid, I think by a select UPS location.

It looks to me like shop wear. Somebody laid it on something or something on it , then drug what ever leaving the scratches.
Given the gun shoots as you describe it, I’d just consider it “christened” !
But I’d also introduce it to some cold blue, to touch it up.

Here’s a recent production Mark IV upper which shows a clean roll mark. By your pictures, and you took some horrible ones old fart (sorry for the dig but clearer and well lit is better, forgivable because blued firearms aren’t so photogenic), it appears the receiver was blued after damage or are the marks bare metal?

I do hope Ruger makes both you and pistol whole again, hug the Mrs. because she deserves it, and excited for you finally owning an otherwise excellent pistol!
