Thats really cool Jerry you where at Embry-Riddle! Where you an instructor too? I fly out of Quantum Helicopters in Chandler. These are my 2 passions. Flying choppers and Shooting! Crazy though... im not in the military LoL! Well im glad you got a little something out of this thread. I hope it helped you decide on what to go with. If i had the extra money, i would get an Aimpoint in a Heartbeat. Especially on a Ruger 556. BUT there are other options out there if needed. I just wanted to open a new door for you!

It is nice to be able to go out in the desert and just plink away. I really love AZ for their gun laws. There are some things i would change here if i could but... As long as i can carry Concealed weapons and have 100 round AR mags on a full auto with out anyone batting an eye, then im staying here! LOL

Have fun man! Keep me updated with what cha get!

Are you looking to be shooting for personal/home defense, or using your AR for 50-200 yard hunting/plinking? For close up shooting something along the line of an EOTEC 512 would work well. I've chosen to use a GG&G aperture sight on my RRA LAR15 for personal defense with no optics. On the other hand I mounted a 2x7x33 Leopold and removed the iron sights on my Stag Arms Model 8 and it makes for a great varmint/predator/plinking rifle. At 2x I still have a wide enough field of view to use it for defensive purposes if need be. The scope sits low on the receiver and looks like it belongs on the rifle unlike some of the larger objective scopes. It's quite accurate at 100 yards to about 200 which is all I expect from a medium range optic. As for looking tactical I suppose that all depends on what you're idea of tactical is. I'm more concerned with the gun being functional which gets back to my first question. What are you going to be using your AR for?

By chance, do you happen to know a helicopter pilot by the name of Damon Blackburn? He was in Prescott for awhile and them moved to Yuma. I think he is in Pheonix now. He is married to a really good friend of mine, Barbara.

More than likely, it will be a range weapon. I have another AR with a millett DMS 1 and wanted something a little different. The DMS is an awesome scope though.

Since you already have one gun with the Millet DMS (love mine) I'd suggest the EOTech if cost is secondary, or Bushnell Holosight (if you can find one) at about half the cost since you aren't going to Iraq with it.

If money is tight, I'd go with the Vortex Strikefire or the Bushnell T-dot. If you plan to mount BUIS the Busnell T-dot is too large unless you have a full length top rail and can push it out over the delta ring.

It doesn't ring a bell. But i also dont know many of pilots outside of Chandler/Gilbert area. Ill keep an ear out!

Man i was at Sportsmans today! They have a Eotech 512 for 399.00 Ahhh its such a good deal! I have also heard good things about the Bushnell Holosight too. I wouldn't mind getting one of those as well. :)

I got the Vortex Strikefire in the mail today and am not sure I am very happy with it.
Upon craking it up..putting the battery in and turning it on..The red dot isn't much of a dot at all. Its a red area that has all kinds of crazy crap shooting off in all directions. Isn't it suppose to be a DOT??? I have a Millet DMS 1 and the dot is a dot!!
Is there an adjustment I need to make?

Oh wow! Seriously!? To me it almost sounds something like a smudge inside the lens causing the dot to be distorted or maybe on the outside of the glass. I have never heard of a strikefire with beams coming out from the Dot. (Sounds kinda like how your describing it. Sort of like Rays right?)

When you have the intensity turned all the way UP is it really bad? Do the "Rays" around the dot go away at lower settings? One of my Strikefires kind of has a Halo looking ring around the Dot at full strength in low light conditions. But when i take it outside during the day its gone.

I think what causes the disorientation is a reflection of light within the scope at Bright settings. Try taking it outside in sunlight and looking through it and see if the Rays are still around the Dot (or maybe the dot will become more apparent). You may just need to keep it on lower light settings inside your house and bump it up if your shooting outside. Does it still look like a blob of light at lower settings or does it clear up and look more like a dot?

I hope this helps you out dude! Im so sorry to hear you are having problems with it!! :( Ill just put my foot in my mouth about how great they are. But i know one thing, Vortex will take care of you if you Totally cannot stand the dot like that. I guarantee they will give you a new one or fix the problem.

Let me know what happens! Hope everything works out man! These are just some things i think it could be or caused by, i may be 100% wrong but i just wanted to throw out my 2 cents!
