I have a Sears and Roebuck 30-06. I dont really know anything about the gun, and I was wondering if ya'll could help! It reads "Ted Williams Model 73 CAL 30-06 SPRG" on the top line. Why cant I find any information on this gun? Why does everyone want to buy it from me? How can I find out when the gun was manufactured? And which number is the serial number? there is a number with a decimal in it under the model number, and there is a number starting with a "U" on the chamber. I would like to know everything about this gun, and any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

The Ted Williams Model 73 is a Winchester New Model 70 with Sears markings and some cosmetic changes to the stock. It will have been made sometime between 1964 and the time Sears stopped selling guns in the 1970s. The serial number is NOT in the Winchester sequence and I know of no place to look up a close date of manufacture.

The serial number will be on the receiver in plain view, likely on the receiver ring right behind the barrel.

I don't know why everybody wants to buy it unless you tell them how little you paid for it.

Sears sold firearms made by many different manufacturers under various trade names over the years. They were usually versions of one of the manufacturer's standard models with changes specified by Sears to allow them to sell a high-quality gun at a bargain price. Perhaps the best-known trade names are "Ranger", "J.C. Higgens", and "Ted Williams".

IMPTCO (In My Perhaps Too-Cynical Opinion), many of the folks trying to buy it off of you are looking for a "steal" of a deal. In part, it may be that they don't think you are likely to have a good grasp of what such a well-made, practical hunting rifle brings in today's market and might let it go for a pittance. How much of that could be due to your gender, and how much to your relative inexperience, I won't venture to guess.
