A few years ago I bought a like-new 30-30 that is obviously a 94 Winchester, but it's marked Sears Ted Williams Model 100. I remember seeing these in the Sears catalog when I was a kid. It looks very nice and shoots great. Are these rifles in the pre-64 Winchester quality class or are they post-64 junk?

I bought one used about 20 years ago myself and have enjoyed it. I believe they were all Post-64, but definitely not junk. Mine has some surface rust on the bluing, but the wood is in good shape. It will put 3 rounds touching at 50 yds through the open sights. I've shot deer and hogs with it and decided it was the best $100 I ever spent on a gun.

I found this rifle at a ABQ gun store that picks up a lot of stuff at estate sales. It still had the original Sears box, and had been shot little if any. The blueing had a faint haze of rust on it here and there, but elbow grease and Hoppes oil seems to have removed it. I replaced its front sight with a a Williams Fire Sight, put a good sling on it and now keep it in my camper all the time. I have hunted pigs with it (no luck yet). I will use it for javelina next winter if I wimp out and can't get one with a bow.

It's so pretty and shoots so nice, I really treasure it. I keep it the place of honor (my camper), along with my late brother's police service revolver (S&W M19 .357), and an old Remington "Targetmaster" single shot .22 with a Williams peep sight. Whatever needs shootin', whether it's a tin can, rabbit, pig, deer, or 4 or 2 legged predator, I have the right tool for the job handy.
