Hello all. I posted this question on another forum and figured I'd ask here too.

I just bought my first Ruger DA revolver, a stainless 4" Security-Six. It has a 156 serial number which indicates it was probably made around 1980. Can someone tell me if Pachmayr makes large size "Presentation" grips for this revolver? I've seen pictures on different forums but can't find any listed on the Pachmayr website.

As an alternative I'm thinking about getting the wood "target" grips from Gunparts Inc. I'm 6 foot 5 with large hands and need a large size grip. Any other suggestions?

You can also try the Hogue monogrips in rubber or wood.
Just be aware that grips made for s/n 150-xxxx do not fit the later guns (like yours). They are rare but they come up every once in a while.

Tyler T-grips are also available for the Security Six.

You can also try to ask on http://www.rugerforum.com/
Plenty of knowledgeable folks there.

Just noticed that CDNN has Ruger factory rubber presentation grips (I believe they were made by Pachmayr) for 12.99$ on their catalog, part #RUG PSB
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies, now I know where to look.

Here are a couple pics. Not too bad shape for 1980 production. Some scratches and dings, bore is bright and sharp.

If the dings and scratches bother you, they can be buffed out and the gun polished to an unbelievable luster. There's a very fine crocus material that is great for eliminating the cylinder ring. If you have a Dremel, you can take out the cylinder stop and round off any edges and polish it.

Millett sights also would make the gun a beauty and add value to the gun.

Just wanted to show what my SS looks like with the new grips from CDNN. I think it looks good and sure fits my hand better!

I strongly recommend that you do not alter the cylinder stop (especailly with a power tool). Changing it will change the lock-up of the gun. This is generally Not A Good Idea. Ring around the Ruger is simply a fact of life with these guns.

I have a Hogue Monogrip on mine, and while it's about the fugliest grip you can put on there, it's really comfortable to hold and shoot.

I just got mine fairly recently, a blued 4" that was made in 1979, and it's a great gun (especially for what I paid for it: $0.00). The factory grips are pretty small, but I only noticed when I was holding it, not when I was actually shooting it. I still changed the grips though, and the Monogrip is much nicer to hold. I'll probably get some oversized wood ones eventually, just so it looks a little better, but the Hogue is really nice to shoot with.
