I've got an early model Ruger Speed Six, 4" barrel, round butt. The serial number prefix is 150- then goes into the remainder of the number. The Ruger website shows the gun was made in 1974.

Did Ruger make Speed Six revolvers with a different roundbutt grip frame shape early on, then change it? I've heard that 150 prefix and down was one size and 151 up was another. Anyone know?

No Speed Six grips I've got fit properly. I've got Pachmayr Grippers that don't fit well as they extend above the top of the frame behind the hammer 1/4" or so.

I've got Pachmayr Compaq Professional grips with an open back. They fit like the factory wood pictured below..no fit.

I've got a set of Ruger factory Speed Six grips that extend too far above the frame behind the hammer, and they do not cover the backstrap sides near the top and down to the bottom. SEE PIC BELOW

I've been a member of the Ruger Forum since about 2003, but have not been able to sign on there off and on for the last couple of years and tire of messing with it.

Any answers? I know little about Rugers and would like some factory wood that fits this gun.

yep -- the older 150 series guns have a different grip frame. Grips are harder to find, but pop up in Ebay from time to time. Jay Scott was a manufacturer that made grips to fit these old Rugers.

Check rugerforum.com
They have a very active classifieds section and 150 grips come up often and cheap. Good luck.

Thanks for that info...I may go that route. If the pin holes on the backside of the 150 Service Six grips are not too close to the back edge that would work.

Thanks

Is there any chance you can trim off the excess 1/4" and then sand the edges down to modify the grippers to fit the 150 grip frame?

PotatoJudge...thanks for the link but those are not what I'm looking for. The top part is correct but not the bottom. That link is for Square Butt grips for a 150 and lower series Service Six or Security Six.

I'm looking for 150 and lower series grips for a Round Butt Speed Six.

Thanks anyways!

these are what I need...
